Re: Sherlock Holmes Puzzle 3

where t is hours elapsed, d is depth of well in feet we assume that during each hour he first climbs 3 feet, and only then slips down 2 feet; rather than doing some other combination of climb/slip/climb/slip which gives him the same total progress/slipping per hour. also, we assume he is starting 30...

Re: Why do keyboards still have a Scroll Lock button?

Well, I guess its just something else to bind commands to. The real question, why not just relabel those F13-F15?

Re: "Password Reuse" Discussion (#792)

I see this comic and then I come across what might be the mother of all password harvesters on reddit. Its a search tool that searches multiple sites, including facebook, twitter and others if you hand over your secrets. http://chrome-ozone.appspot.com/ Any way to be sure what they're up to? Being a...

Re: "Geocentrism" Prediction for #792

I was just looking at that. Be wary of anyone pushing scientific knowledge that must be purchased before it can be debated. Their website just.... kinda reminds me of the time cube. EARTH HAS 4 CORNER SIMULTANEOUS 4-DAY TIME CUBE IN ONLY 24 HOUR ROTATION. 4 CORNER DAYS, CUBES 4 QUAD EARTH- No 1 Day ...

Re: Combining Idioms. Portmanteau style

I still think the word "Portmidiom" has a place. "If we can hit that bullseye then the rest of the dominoes will fall like a house of cards... Checkmate." -- Zapp Brannigan This combines several idioms ("hit the bullseye", "the rest of the dominoes", "fal...

Re: Combining Idioms. Portmanteau style

I know I've heard "I'll burn that bridge when I come to it" before and love it. I suppose we could create a portmanteau? a "portmantidiom"? Even if you don't have much, a sure thing may be better than taking a risk: "A drop in the bucket is worth two in the bush" To sum...

Eugene Oregon: Anybody there?

I'm seeing meetups in Portland, but nothing in Eugene (or Corvallis for that matter, do all the ECE majors already know each other?). I'm a highly unemployed/highly flexible nerd here in Eugene, who else wants to play with PERL and model rockets and rappelling off buildings with cat-6 cable? Drinks ...

Re: Self Controlled Gaming

I've never gotten into an mmo, but I definitely get obsessed with any game I play until I'm "done". Any interest in rhythm games? I find IIDX incredibly addictive and fun for 45 minutes or so, at which point its just frustrating.
