Re: "Helping.png" Discussion

Yup...this is familiar. A word to anyone who's there, or is getting there, or hasn't gotten out yet: you cannot "make" someone happy. Don't even feel guilty. Don't even care, if you can help it. Get out, get away, and get them help when you've pried their needy little hands from your ankl...

Re: How many programming languages do you know?

VB.NET / C# (only counts as 1 language in my book) I really hope you don't equate VisualBasic .NET and C#. The syntax may be different, but they just feel so similar. Perhaps I just don't have a complete understanding of C#. Perhaps they do seem a little similar, but C# is alot closer to C/C++ than...

Re: How many programming languages do you know?

I would say I know C# and Perl.
I could also probably hack at something written in PHP, C/C++, Java[Script], and [Visual]Basic, but it would take me alot longer than something written in C# or Perl.

Ill see if anyone can figure out how to make them :) EDI...

Halo 3 fucked up my ability to play Halo 2

Seriously, I've been playing Halo 3 at a friends house since New Years, and I went back to Halo 2 yesterday and played like a noob. Has anyone else been screwed by the shifting of the button setup?

Re: Tablet pc or ultra compact. hmmm.

I have a Gateway C-140X. T7300 @ 2.00GHz 2GB Ram, 80GB hard drive (i got screwed there, new one coming in a few days), and some middle-class ATI video card (1280 x 768 max res). Cost around $1700, but its worth it to be able to write on the screen (im still in school, and notes are easier to take on...

Re: What editor do you use?

I recently picked up C# so I've been spending alot of time in Visual Studio 2k5. Otherwise I use Programmers Notepad for code editing, OpenOffice for documents and crap, and nano when I'm in a linux shell (cuz I'm too lazy to learn anything more than how to exit emacs and vi[m]). Re: "Romantic Drama Equation" discussion

Someone needs to redraw the comic adding a function for bisexuals. I have a feeling it would be a straight line connecting the two endpoints of the gay function

Re: Is Java is a bad language for beginners?

I think the biggest reason why a language is "bad for beginners" is because they aren't properly taught it. Especially when they are self-taught. I sat through my CompSci I class last night, where the teacher was explaining user defined functions, return types, argument types, pass by refe...

Re: Why Java is a bad language for beginners

The moment I get my own classroom (I intend to do some time teaching), I'm ripping any kind of GUI system out of the computer labs and dropping them onto command-line only Linux thin clients, giving them GCC, vim, and bash, and getting them to be comfortable with those tools first. Of course, they ...
