Re: The brain of Henry Molaison, the Momento Man

Oh dear god, why do doctors even suggest these surgeries? "Hmm, let's remove his testicles to cure his chronic masturbation!" "Hmm, if we remove this girl's clitoris, she won't become a tramp!" "Hmm, if we stab the brain a bit, that should make him/her less annoying to us!&...

Re: First possible habitable planet found

3x Mass wouldn't nessesarily equate to 3x gravity although most planets of rock can be thought to have roughly equivalent density. I don't really know of any major difference in planet consitution. Unless it's made up of pure uranium or pure carbon for example. Most space rock is the same. 3x gravit...

Youtube breaks 1billion subscribers

http://www.katonda.com/news/29/2010/2060 Now considering most of these are a: sock account subs, b: subs you get to people's secondary channels, c: 80% random channels you just subbed to for the hell of it one day If everyone were to trawl through theirs and clear out all the nonsense ones that they...

Re: [PHYSICS] Challenge Problem

No. The candle won't go out.

it's mass is ridiculously low for inertia to have an effect

And the air inside the cabin isn't going to be displaced enough to cause an issue.

This all assumes ideal conditions though.

Re: public misconceptions

Worst faux pas is the obnoxious "Science is a conspiracy" i.e. "my brain thought it was A and no amount of reasoning will change my mind therefore I will invoke crazy pills and jump to the WORST conclusion" Trust me there are people on youtube who believe everything from expandin...

Re: public misconceptions

"Why do monkeys not give birth to humans"

all the awful basic assumptions etc.

The "scientists make mistakes" one is a classic i've heard that just grinds my bones.

Mostly though it's that you have to be a scientist to understand science when that's blatantly not true.

Re: Perfect Sphere

Then we'd have to extract your eyeball and find a way to prove your eyeball is a perfect optical insturment. :D I thought about the moment of inertia tensor but remember it doesn't have to be a sphere in order to give a result equal to a spherical radius Unless of course you do it for all 3 axis. I ...

I cannot believe this hasn't attracted the usual attention boobs garner but quite frankly why on earth do you care so much about some image of perfection for your boobs. Unless they are causing you severe back problems, just show those puppies off for all to see! The key is finding a great fitting b...

Re: Perfect Sphere

I think there has to be some kind of macroscopic limit here for where we can draw the line at what constitutes perfect given that at some point we'll be dealing with oscillating wave functions and not anything that remotely resembles an actual sphere. Also in relation to my own ego,I think I came up...

Re: Should drivers and passengers in automobiles wear helmet

Race drivers wear helmets so obviously it helps. But then people aren't supposed to drive their cars above the legal speed limit nor in ways that equate to racing drivers. You're confusing basic practicality with safety. That much safety gear would raise the stress level of driving and also impair t...

Re: Perfect Sphere

Using your quantum tunneling device, teleport yourself inside and attach weight (a) at any point on the sphere. Fill the sphere with water now attach a piece of string to the weight (a) and attach a float (b) to the other end that transmits an electircal signal whenever it tocuches the spere. Allow ...
