Re: 1592: "Overthinking"

Edit: Figured it out, they are citations for the claims: http://journals.lww.com/cjsportsmed/Citation/2...

Meh. Who designed that schema? The age and hours_since_watching_porn fields, I guess, represent events in time but instead of being actual timestamps, they're intervals counting backward from NOW()? And, from context, it seems they use two different units, neither of them seconds. So based on that,...

Re: 0981: "Porn Folder"

A question for the UNIX geeks: do the recursive exploration commands store the inodes to avoid that kind of loop? Most kind of searching commands avoid this by not following symlinks by default. There is usually an option to follow symlinks so i would assume this keeps the inode reference. Unfortun...

However, what you may lose in potential nonspecific "effectiveness", you gain in not lying outright to the people who put their trust in you to give them real medicine when you're charging them for real medicine. Ah, there lies the heart of the matter. Are we buying the medicine or the cu...

Why not sell sugar water pills though? It's not like placebos don't work; they're remarkably effective against a number of ailments particularly as an anti-depressant and anesthetic. They also only work if you think they will work so putting them on the shelf with other medications gives them the cr...

There are, in reality, two solutions to the "sock problem" in life. 1) Standardize as much as possible 2) Acquire a wife who does your laundry for you* Actually acquiring a wife turned out to cause my sock problem. My parents had always bought me identical black socks and my brother ident...

I always wondered if genetic programming techniques might not eventually replace human efforts at designing better AI - after all it can design better antenna's than people, design walking robot schematics, and write programs to beat other programs it writes at any simple game. So far applications s...
