Assigning a Drive Letter to my iPhone

OK, so long story short, a friend took a video on their iPhone which their 2-year-old erased and I'm trying to figure out how to recover it. It looks like there are about 30 different free software suites that will do it, but they all require the device to show up as an actual drive (not as a camera...

Re: Measuring Amperage

I say that the voltage is fixed, but that's probably inaccurate. The output of the alternator is 28VDC, but I'm sure that's somewhat nominal. If I'm reading you correctly, though, if I set up my system with my resistor chosen using R=V/I and measure the voltage at the battery and the current via my ...

Measuring Amperage

I'm going to preface this by saying that I'm an ME, and as such, electricity is voodoo-gilded black magic, so there's a strong possibility that this is a very stupid question. I'm trying to measure the power/current output of an alternator at various engine speeds. I have a clamp current meter so th...

Man, it's been busy recently. I'm finally getting around to actually setting some dates, buying tickets, that kind of thing. Looks like we're going to start in London (by the way, for any Americans trying to get to Europe on the cheap, it's fairly cheap to go through LHR). I've been looking at place...

Has anyone complained about the new Lexus commercial where there's a bunch of stuff being blown (or sucked, I don't know, it's sliding) in one direction, including a car which is sliding backwards? So, it's skidding, tires aren't moving, actually sliding across the screen. Then, to go forward (in th...

Re: Impeachment Proceedings Against Obama Begin?

Can we go back to how compulsory voting that allows you to turn in a blank or Mickey Mouse ballot doesn't allow you to voice your opinion (or lack thereof) in exactly the same way that not showing up at all does? How is pushing a button that says "I prefer not to vote" any different than n...

8:00 is quite early so most places won't be too busy and there'll probably still be restaurants which haven't opened/are opening. Of course, near the tourist hotspots the restaurants tend to open earlier because they want the tourist trade. Good to know, thanks! One of my Flickr contacts is an arch...

Meh, opinion pieces are often overstated. Protecting his free speech (and thereby protecting everyone's) is far more important than silencing him. Want to limit his impact? Support a bill for compulsory voting.

Re: Impeachment Proceedings Against Obama Begin?

And this is why I want compulsory voting in the US. Santorum won a caucus in Kansas this week. Fewer than 30,000 people voted. That's insane. If you force everyone to vote, riling up the base will be counterproductive in all but the most extreme locales, and even then only at relatively low levels (...

You’re still only considering one side of it. What if you release classified data that lists where the squadron was each day between 6 and 24 months ago, but nothing about where it’s been since.
