Re: Gaming fleeting thoughts

On the plus side, if you find a good gas cloud, you can make back ten times the value of your ship in one run. (Note, however, that wormhole gas sites have very powerful "Sleeper" enemies that spawn after about twenty minutes - be careful how far you press your luck!) Exploration can be a ...

I think the quote about "standing on the shoulders of giants" applies. You need to build the tools to build the tools to build the tools to build the tools... in order to have modern technology. The same applies to the knowledge that goes into it, I think. It all builds up over time, and c...

The evidence for accelerating expansion in this study being "only" three sigma rather than five doesn't sound to me like a compelling evidence to say "it doesn't exist". I'm not sure if you can really stack standard deviations in this manner, but wouldn't a 95% CI around a "...

Atlas Reactor: So XCOM, Frozen Synapse, and Overwatch walk into a bar...

So Atlas Reactor was officially released on Steam a couple days ago. I'd been playing it during the beta for a while, and it seemed like good fun. It's simultaneous-turn-based, tactical combat using an ensemble cast of heroes and abilities resembling a MOBA or Overwatch or the like. All players lock...
