Re: Suicide Squad: You've gotta be Joker
Crowey & I saw Suicide Squad last night. You know what, DC has a bunch of amazing characters and wonderful stories that they seem to be utterly failing to bring to our screens because they get a third of a way into producing a film and then get shit scared that another Marvel film made a ton of ...

Re: Star Trek: To Infinity and Beyond
Yep, much more "Trek Like" and specifically "TOS Like". References and callbacks are all in there but handled very well as they're actually written with a point in the structure. Not much else I can really say without spoiling things but it was great. Ohh & the Sulu being ope...

Re: Pokemon Go
It's slow as all hell (because the Go servers are) but you can use https://pokevision.com to see what Pokemon are in an area at any given time. It doesn't see Pokemon that are the result of incense or a lure (as they are client specific) but will sure the active Pokemon from normal spawn nodes.

Re: Pokemon Go
So, from what I can see the Pokemon available at a given location seems to be pulling from 3 tables. One being the global "common" list (Pidgeys, etc) one being an almost micro-biome dependent list (more water pokemon around the coast, large lakes, etc) and one being a "Regional commo...

Re: Ghostbusters (the new one)
What I should have said was: The film was not what I wanted. The plot felt hollow, the characters bland uninspired attempted copies of those we know so well. Every beat of the film felt like it didn't want to even try and stand up on it's own two legs, instead relying on callbacks to what has gone b...

Re: XKCD, where they talk shit about you in a secret subforum
I think we've almost got to the point of talking round in circles and BattleMoose seems to have quit the thread so I'm simply going to say one last thing and leave the thread myself. EtS and threads/forums like it are a thing. There seems to be something like that that crops up on a lot of BIG forum...

I understand that discovering something like ETS exists on a forum you have been posting on for years exists and then looking at all the times you are mentioned over such a long period must be.... not fun. I don't think anyone would really say that they don't have any sympathy for the shitty feeling...

Re: Gaming fleeting thoughts
I started playing Firewatch yesterday and I kind of love it. I really want to just get back to it. It has mildly stressful sections so far, but overall it's gorgeous and really calming and kind of sad. Firewatch is beautiful. Some people were disappointed in the ending but I really liked it and the...

FaiD is also the place I met my one of my best friends in the entire world (Moo) and my wife (Crowey). Where I felt sheltered enough to chat through hard times with friends because that extra level of "away from public view" gave me the confidence and the strength to carry on. A place wher...

Random side question:
Does PHPbb have support for gifv as if so it doesn't seem to be working at the moment.
I mainly ask as gifv is becoming more and more popular and is a HUGE bandwidth saving over standard gifs

Re: STAR! Trek into Darkness?
I was hoping Voyager would consist of "the fastest way to get home is to build a new federation, and have them help look for a way to connect to home". Instead, we get a bunch of people applying the prime directive to warp-capable civilizations (sure, I could imagine that the prime direct...

Re: STAR! Trek into Darkness?
I blame Voyager. Even if they hadn't screwed it up by ignoring the show premise more often than not and turning the whole thing into a "Saved By The Bell: The New Class"-esque retread of Next Generation, they really should have given it several years before starting up another spin-off se...

The Harsh Truth:
Firefly isn't coming back, get over it. It would actually be a step back for Joss to do it now, he's one of the most wanted Hollywood popcorn flick directors at the moment and pretty much all the rest of the cast have also moved on.

Re: Doctor Whom
It's worth noting that the last two "who's next" discussions by the press/fans haven't guessed the next Doctor correctly. Mainly because of the tendency to go for someone who has had one or two smaller main roles but is as yet "undiscovered" by mainstream media. Personally I pref...

Re: STAR! Trek into Darkness?
I think you might be suffering from selection bias when it comes to the show. I got through about half a season of TOS before deciding that I had yet to come across anything remotely approaching good and most of it was so unbearably awful (at least, when taken seriously) that I had to give up. I've...

I suppose this means it's available for download somewhere , too. As of last night it wasn't. Re: Star Trek into Darkness
I'll admit that having Kirk on the mission didn't make that much sense. My impression was that it was kind of an off-the-books, irregular mission ( involving, as it did, an execution without trial in Klingon space) that someone who went strictly by the books would not be willing to carry out. I...
