Re: 1731: "Wrong"

Something like this happened to me last night. I told my wife that Ted Kaczynski was a subject in Project MKUltra. I then looked it up, and it now I'm not convinced. He was the subject of human experimentation by a Dr. Murray at Harvard, but I can't find a credible source that he was tied to MKUltra...

Re: 1534: "Beer"

Assuming this is Randall's actual opinion on beer, for me this puts him the category of people who say that they don't like wine/whisky/tea/coffee/curries etc. Whilst there's a legit reason to say you don't like it, there's always the suspicion that they just haven't spent the time and effort neces...

1. Prices seem pretty constant when I look at them. Are you looking at inflated resellers or something? My FLGS sells them occasionally, for normal box price. 2. Dunno if it's possible, but good lord don't do that. AH is hard enough to stay on top of even in the base game; you'll just constantly mi...

Re: XBox One

Leave the system on all the time, and I think you're good for that, yeah. And you may as well leave it on, since consoles eat power even when they're "off". Volume is different, I believe. That's a TV control, not an xbox control. The WiiU controller can control the TV, so technologically...

Re: XBox One

As much as I've stated my dislike for the proposed features of the XBox One (all of which they've taken back), it occurs to me that this might be perfect for my sister. My sister's a quadriplegic; she can't move anything below her shoulders. So, when she watches TV, she relies on other people to cha...

Re: Europa Universalis 4

I've played two Ironman games so far. First was Ayutthaya. I was a pretty decent trading power by the end, and ended up in 7th place in score. Then, I decided to play a colonial Morocco game. In the year 1730, I'm bringing in 160 a month in trade from the Sevilla node. As the sole Muslim colonial po...

Re: Europa Universalis 4

I played the game for 7 hours yesterday, and I'm quite happy with it. In some respects, it's just like EU3 plus all of the expansions with updated graphics and some new mechanics. I still haven't completely figured out trade or what trade power does, but everything else is fairly straightforward and...

Re: Europa Universalis 4

I wish I could say how good or not good EU4 is, but I'd have to know how to play it, first. The tutorials don't really do a good job of teaching the player anything, and the UI is... incomprehensible, at best. Tiny text and buttons, enormous tooltips... you'd think a studio as successful as Paradox...

Re: X-Com: UFO Defense / UFO: Enemy Unknown

I've had some aliens just wander out into the open without shooting after I killed a bunch of his buddies, but I've never seen an alien shoot a fellow alien in panic. That's just the AI being dumb, as far as I'm aware. The only way I've seen aliens actually panic is through successful psi attacks. ...

But panic is exclusive to the human side. Are you sure this is true? I'm pretty sure I've panicked aliens by slaughtering a few of their buddies. It may be the case that on classic and impossible the stat boosts to the aliens are such that they rarely or never panic, but I'm pretty certain the mech...

How is panic a fair mechanic? There's nothing the player can do to control or mitigate it, at all. Have you tried not getting shot? Move more carefully and protect your rookies. Have you gone to Vegas and won millions of dollars? Your assertion that "don't get shot," is the solution to pa...

It feels like the game is deliberately penalizing you when you're already being penalized as it is - you just took damage (anything below impossible) or just lost a trooper (getting hit on impossible basically means losing a trooper), and your remaining troopers panicking robs them of their turn an...

As far as the Trinity goes, I liked playing EverQuest at lower levels, because even if you didn't have the perfect group set-up, you could PROBABLY make a group work for leveling. League of Legends is built like an arcade game, sort of; it's very fast and very fluid, but this comes at the cost of some complexity. Whether or not the loss of that complexity is a problem or not is up to individual players to decide :) It adds complexity, but not depth, in my opinion. http://www...

The difference between an XBox routinely phoning home with collected Kinect data, and someone coming to pay you a visit with a $5 wrench is that you know when someone's broken your kneecaps, while you can't tell when someone's accessed Microsoft's database...
