meetings with admissions folks

So, I'm in college, and I want to transfer to the local state school, and change my major to a pretty much unrelated field. The career counselor I spoke with here suggested I set up a meeting with the department head, to ask things like "How do transfers do as they adapt to the program? What wo...

Not a huge fan of Day of Silence, personally. Ooh, yes, can we talk about this? my college's GSA is planning on doing something for it, but I am personally just not comfortable with it, though I think it's cool and symbolic and attention-getting. Maybe I'll hand out fliers and be vocal in my suppor...

I read a comic-thingy that pointed out that dogs, at least in western cultures, are anthropomorphized, so (some) people feel weirder about eating them. I am not a dog person and would probably try it, just to see :p Also, re fur/leather, I always heard it justified as: well, cows you're at least eat...

Re: Thinking about going vegetarian...advice? thoughts?

The tricky thing about healthy food access, at least in the US, is that even access to supermarkets (instead of just fast-food places and gas stations) is more or less restricted based on class (and/or race, the two demographics often overlap in the US), so consequently, a lot of poor minorities don...

Sticking my nose in: guys, it's not that hard to change your vocabulary if people correct you. You can even look up the correct terminology on wikipedia, for the most part (as noted, wikipedia uses "transwoman" instead of "trans woman." I prefer to use the latter myself, but afai...

Good luck, Jess!

I've never straightened my semi-curly and uber-thick hair... but after I chopped most of it off, I discovered that apparently my hair grows naturally straight (ish) down to my shoulders. After that it gets curly, for whatever reason.

transmen Just nitpicking here-- it's preferred to be spelled "trans men" (and likewise, "trans women,") with a space, so that trans is an adjective. The idea is that "transmen" puts men who happen to be trans into their own othersome gender category, when they're reall...

Tights + skirts are usually a winning combination. Or thigh-high socks, if you're like me and dislike tights. Or leggings. I've seen people do pants, but usually only with knee-or-so-length swishy skirts, dunno if yours is like that.

Yeah, if it's likely that you can guess what gender identity individuals will pick (how do they do that, anyways?), then it's less of a problem to do surgery as an infant. If you can't, then it's best to leave them alone.
