Lets see, dumping the DB from postgresql, across SSH, into pgsql took just under 4 hours. Then rsyncing the forum uploads across took another 2 hours, but I did that before taking the forums down, updating to to catch the changes from between rsyncing and shutting down the old webserver was about 15...

The version on what-if is more advanced then what the forums used. People's computers were slower when this was a problem, and particularly it was a problem for people on slow computers then more then other people. This is not spam! This is an error with your site when working with a Firefox extension, made by the EFF, that automatically connects you to the SSL port instead of regular port 80. The problem still persists. I cannot view any of your comics. Please correct this. This is an issue with that plugin....

Yah, it is on its own queue. Keeps the spam attacks from affecting the rest of the forum usage most of the time. I think you folk have been generally happy with said decision. Everything UCP-related, like logins and PMs, is seperated from the forum. So getting in is a pain (as is logging out), but ...

Trying to load nonexistent pages (http://forums.xkcd.com/nosuchpage) is also slow, and I'd expect that phpBB wouldn't need to run in that case. But blag.xkcd.com works, which from my understanding is on the same server. You are getting stuck in the queue waiting for the worker pool handling forums....
