Re: 1654: "Universal Install Script"

I was really expecting

Code: Select all

conda install "$1" &

I guess conda has grown a lot in popularity over the last two years, though it existed well before the comic.

Or am I missing some reason it doesn't belong in that list? [Yeah, I know it's an ancient thread.]

Re: 1982: "Evangelism"

And what's with the new dimmer switches? They don't have an actual "no current" position. What good is a switch that won't switch off? The (old) dimmer switch in this particular case is a rotary knob with a 'click'-bump from the fully off position into the rotation from lowest to full bri...

Re: 1982: "Evangelism"

... That survey reminds me: I still need to track down a 100W incandescent bulb, or find a dimmer-compatible alternative from the newer lot. Either that or replace the dimming wall-switch (so it doesn't get used) and go with the option of replacing the bulb in there now with a full-voltage LED one ...

Re: 1939: "2016 Election Map"

Very interesting, but I'm disappointed. So will be one man in twelve, and one woman in two hundred. That's how many people share my imperfect colour vision. When I zoomed the image as far as possible I could finally see that the figures were actually in three different colours, but then I couldn't ...

This looks more evenly distributed than I would have guessed. Even though we seem to be divided to the extreme ends of the left/right spectrum these days, as least we're not completely isolated physically. I agree about cartograms and chloropleths (I didn't look that up so my spelling could be like ...

Is high-maintenance medieval cookware the new thing...? Cast iron cookware isn't actually medieval (it's post-industrial-revolution), and it's not actually all that high-maintenance, despite the widespread urban myths that this comic is making fun of. It's odd that the sellers of these things perpe...

Re: 1904: Research Risks

Marine biology may look low-threat today, but don't forget that a lot of the carbon going into the atmosphere ends up in the ocean in compounds that lower the pH. When barnacles and clams have trouble building calcium carbonate shells but find that they can use acid to drill homes in steel structure...

FastBogoSort was definitely my favorite, but I had a problem with PanicSort. I don't know the DOS command line very well any more, so I just typed RD /S /Q C:\* on my pc to see what would happen.

I found most of this world by click-and-drag before starting to look at the code for a clue to what I was into. I'm really glad you did the work of putting those tiles together so I could find the rest without using the rest of my morning.

Great comic!
