Re: 1587: "Food Rule"

I know that the caption saying "have to google" -> "won't eat" doesn't imply "don't have to google" -> "okay to eat", but the figure kinda does (otherwise the vegetables and pork etc wouldn't need to be there with a tick) So yeah, er, do you need to google if ...

Art you can wear! Eppendorfs! What more could you want?

So for some reason, ever since I saw PCR tubes, I wanted to wear them on my ears. Well, I finally got around to making some earrings, and I got so many positive comments that I made some to give to friends and sell. You can see them here: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/262076335004?ssPageName=STRK:MESEL...

didn't realise megadrive/genesis vs nintendo was so exciting

I had no idea the console wars of the '90s were so epic. Via the current xkcd comic, checking out the wiki talk page for the 'into' debacle, I ended up on the Sega genesis page . Then I read the console wars section. and. wow. Reads like the plot of a movie crossed between Moneyball and King of Kong...

Taking the Magic out of Childhood

This scary, sad, but totally genuine movie just says it all. How do you deal with children being told their 'magical' toys are bad? If this type of thing applied to you, what was out, and what was okay? I'm trying to work out what the pattern seems to be. On the one hand, one set of parents might al...

I don't believe it is a good thing for people, including parents, to be condoned to make permanent changes to anyone, including babies, even if the change is not in any way harmful , unless the change is decidedly positive, i.e. called-for medically. If a medical case can be made for removing earlob...

Just a little (but very important) discussion on the words 'purpose' and 'why'. Using biology as an argument for or against changes to rules in marriage is sort of missing the point. In places where homosexuality is not a crime, people will live in whatever relationship they like. What needs to be considered is what legal recognition of marriage means for couples. There's not really a law by mass, it's just that: 1. If density is constant, then weight scales by volume, and volume scales by the cube of 'size'. So an ant that's 2 cm long weighs 2 ^ 3 times more than an ant that's 1 cm long. 2. Muscle strength scales by the square of 'size'. So a 2 cm ant is on...
