Are you on 2010 or 2013? My 2013 instances have multi-window opening on default installs. I think it is still the same instance, so does have some resource sharing stuff going on that you might not want, but times when you care about that should be rare.

Maybe try vectorizing the image via an online tool. I don't have any experience with any that google brings up, so I'm not going to link any.

Vector images are able to be expanded to any size you need.
