Re: Games you can't remember the title of.

Something made me think of this cyberpunk-ish sourcemod I remember hearing about a while back. the story had something to do with a girl/woman with pyrokinetic abilities, possibly the main character? I'm just wondering if that rings a bell for anybody. So, funny story. I was spring cleaning my hard...

Re: The Darker Side of the News

People on the local subreddit have been comparing the bombings to the DC sniper situation back in 2002, with the 'pattern' essentially being random, and so far no claims of responsibility or manifestos. A trip-wire set beside a public road seems pretty indiscriminate compared to package bombs set in...

Re: More efficient airplane boarding protocols

I also avoid checking baggage because the bag check-in process takes time and means you have to get to the airport even earlier than you already should to account for security and such. And on top of that, your checked bags are subject to the depredations of the baggage handlers and may be damaged, ...

Re: The Darker Side of the News

I though the first bomb Monday might have been a copycat, but two on the same day makes me think the one on the 2nd being a test is more likely. If it *is* racially motivated, might turn out that the first victim had some connection to the bomber and then they moved on to neighbors with denser minor...

Kind of surreal to see my home town getting this kind of attention. I remember four years ago during SXSW someone crashed a car into a crowd downtown and got a similar level of attention. That turned out to just be a drunk idiot trying to escape police in a stolen car though. I expect this also has ...

My impression was that Wakanda just didn't let outsiders in, even to the rural parts, except possibly in rare, controlled circumstances. The Mythbusters did at least one episode addressing this and found a method that seemed to be faster than any of the standards. My personal feeling is that it doesn't matter much, I don't think the boarding procedure is usually a bottleneck in getting the plane moving (perhaps for very large aircraf...

Re: Should schools have police alarms?

A thought I had is that many schools have PA systems with two-way intercoms in each classroom. I wonder how difficult it would be to retrofit such a system to be capable of discerning gunshots. Triangulation would be unnecessary in that case, it'd be trivial to localize a shot to the closest interco...
