Re: "Men's Rights" Groups Have Become Frighteningly Effective

We began our investigation of child custody aware of a common perception that there is a bias in favor of women in these decisions. Our research contradicted this perception. Although mothers more frequently get primary physical custody of children following divorce, this practice does not reflect ...

Re: "Men's Rights" Groups Have Become Frighteningly Effective

Now custody in divorce cases on the other hand, those are almost always decided in favor of the woman. Do you have a citation for that, BlackSails? Cos according to the a study of the court system in Massachusetts (first jurisdiction I found stats for): We began our investigation of child custody a...

Re: Father kills son for raping toddler...

In Rome btw, this would have been perfectly acceptable. The paterfamilias had the power of life and death over his family, and it was his duty to make sure they all grew up to be good roman citizens. Well, yeah... But in Ancient Rome, raping little girls was pretty much acceptable as long as you we...

Re: Do high school teachers ever use "Powerpoint" for teaching?

Hi pernero, congrats on (almost) becoming a teacher! I don't remember any of my secondary school teachers using powerpoint, but I've had several lecturers who used it at university level, and I've seen it used in secondary schools during my own bits of teaching experience. From what I've seen, there...

Except that it doesn't. It refers to cars from the 1950s, rather than of. It's a prepositional phrase, and not in any way a possessive.

(Sorry, I know I'm a page or two late on the interviewwear discussion) Me and a friend got talking about interview clothes a couple of days ago, and I kind of think it's as much a class issue as a gender one. I come from a family that survives mostly on benefits (welfare), and I'm at university tryi...

@Cassi: I was on Microgynon 30, and then another one (Levon-something?) that was the same formula just under a different name. I took it more or less constantly between 16 and 20, with the odd month off here and there because I wasn't having sex or because the pill was annoying me. I didn't specific...

I actually have a funny story about the free tampon samples in school. Thanks. That was a very nice response. My problem is more that I see a child and my reaction is "For the love of all that's holy, I don't EVER want that." I have younger siblings, and I'm a terrible big sister. I have no patience with their immaturity. I'd be a terrible mother, and I don'...

When I was studying detective fiction for uni I remember reading an essay about it, and how much controversy it caused when it was published. The impression I got was that Agatha Christie fans back in the the day were basically like the fans of a good sci-fi show now, in terms of how devoted they w...

I haven't read that story, but the explanation seems very familiar. Maybe I heard a synopsis in Junior High and thought I'd read it. Haha I do that all the time! I read a story once where the narrator has been deliberately distorting facts to hide the information that he/she is the actual killer in the story.
