Re: 2072: "Evaluating Tech Things"

Asking fi someone was a "Friend of Dorthy" was a way of asking if another person had the same "interests" as you back when having such an orientation was illegal.

Re: 1972: "Autogyros"

So the thing pushes itself upward by throwing air... upward? Ok, so technically, since the rotor is unpowered, it's not throwing the air upward. The air is pushing against it. causing spin. Then, because it's shaped like an airplane wing, the spinning creates a lift effect, and that sucks you up in...

Re: 1905: Cast Iron Pan

I do enjoy cooking on a cast iron. It holds heat well, gives an incredible sear to meat, and like has been said before is actually easier to clean than most nonstick cookware. Plus, it's heavy enough on the stovetop that I don't have to hold on to it with one pan while stirring with the other. And w...

Re: 1893: "Thread"

I have to admit, when I saw the comic, my first thought was along the lines of "Did I miss a big(ish) news/announcement regarding Pern somewhere?"
While it's cool to see that Randall is also a fan, I'm also a little disappointed, lol.

Re: 1877: "Eclipse Science"

NDT tweeted , "Odd. No one is in denial of America’s Aug 21 total solar eclipse. Like Climate Change, methods & tools of science predict it." Odd indeed. There surely must be some eclipse skeptics out there. They must be less vocal because they know they would be proven wrong much soo...

Probably one of my favorite bad negative reviews ever.

To summarize: "I didn't know what this was, so I imagined something, and when it wasn't that I was upset and gave it 1 star."

Re: 1824: Identification Chart

The only problem with Warthogs and mustangs and such is that they don't have their own wings to replace the wings on an aircraft of the same name.

That said, I think I need a poster of this.

Re: 1766: "Apple Spectrum"

I was glad to see someone mention the problems with breeding in the red delicious apples. Unfortunately much of the supermarket variety produce has suffered this fate. Red Delicious apples, the generic 'hothouse' tomatoes (and what most grocery stores pass off as a 'Roma'), Iceberg Lettuce, and many...

What difference? I don't have "coffee mugs" or "tea mugs" or whatever; I have a bunch of "mugs" that I use for drinking hot beverages in general, and milk. At least for some coffee mugs, everything you drink will taste like coffee. (Same for some tea mugs etc.) If you ...

I live in Texas and I can concur about the two-headed monster thing. And speaking of retronyms, in many places it is Tea and UN-sweet tea. I've lost count of the number of times I've started a meal with unsweetened and had my glass refilled with sugar by a 'helpful' server who didn't give me time to...

Using android with Swype, so it only suggests one word at a time. Interesting chains of words can occur. So I choose the first one each time. Sometimes I extended it to absurd but amusing results. I'm pretty sure swype IS influenced by previous inputs... "Elementary, my dear [God][is not sure y...

Now if "google" starts getting used as a verb to generically refer to all search related activity, then we'll have a problem. Too late, it already is. (and I left the terminating preposition just for the English nuts here) I think I'll have to side with the thought that, if the two partie...
