Re: 1348: "Before the Internet"

I'd like to say I read more back then, but I really didn't. I read more online now and considering all the stuff I used to read is still available, the stuff I read then wasn't as interesting. I spent way more time in my head mulling the same thoughts over and over, rather than fueling those ideas w...

Re: 1335: "Now"

I wonder if the animated image will be replaced (moving the country labels) when Daylight So-Called-Saving Time starts or ends in various places. Wouldn't this have to have an entirely separate set of images with some landmasses shifted and distorted for DST? Anyway, I hope he's got a work-around f...

Re: What-if 0005: Robot Apocalypse

I think Randall makes a good case here that with present robotic technology a "Maximum Overdrive" uprising would be totally pathetic, and even nukes would be useless to the machines. But that's because hardware continues to lag behind software, so the real threat simply hasn't arrived yet....

I was taught journalism by a sharp and scrutinizing professor who'd been one of the first women to receive a PhD from her institution... she steadfastly insisted the moon landing had been faked. You can throw all the sound arguments you want at some people's skepticism, but they'll find a way to ma...

Yes fellow Detroiters, there are good things to say about the city and the SE Michigan area. But IMO they are outweighed by the bad.

I had testicular cancer at 34, then prostate cancer at the ripe old age of 40. Treated the first with surgery and radiation, and the prostate with radioactive seeds ( brachytherapy ). That led to a horrific short-term side effect immediately after the surgery. I won't go into detail but it was strai...

You (Randall) say you want to clear up misconceptions, but then you say: "I’m not an expert in radiation and I’m sure I’ve got a lot of mistakes in here ..." Don't science and due diligence require that you run this by someone like a radiation oncologist and have them sign off on it before...

Hawaiians must be like rabbits. I'm a mainlander who moved here five years ago. Indeed there are a lot of very big families, and I'm not even kidding. My step-brother has five sons, and that's considered modest here. Also, vowels are mostly pronounced individually in Hawaiian. For instance, I live ...
