Re: Best keyboard switch?

We've got a Ducky Shine Zero TKL with blues at home, and a Ducky Shine many TKL with browns at work. It's a few months later on the same setup. We are definitely in love with the Blues -- they're a pleasure to use. The Browns are still nice, better than a regular membrane keyboard, but the Blues ar...

Re: Best keyboard switch?

I'm typing on blues right now (no O rings), and it's quite pleasant (and not nearly as loud as I was expecting) I find that the build quality can make a big difference in terms of noise. My Filco blues aren't much louder than my Das browns. I've got a Ducky Shine Zero TKL with blues at home, and a ...

Re: Best keyboard switch?

I'm typing on blues right now (no O rings), and it's quite pleasant (and not nearly as loud as I was expecting), but I have browns at work, and think I prefer those. My wife has tried both and prefers the blues (she says they fill her with joy). When I was small our family PC had an IBM model M with...

Re: The One True Pronunciation of ".GIF"

This is why I pronounce "JPEG" as "jay-feg". I didn't know that the P stood for "photographic" when I first discovered the format, whereas I just assumed that the G stood for graphics. Also I usually pronounce .jpg as "dot Jay Pee Gee", so even more reason to...

Re: The One True Pronunciation of ".GIF"

In Europe, we used to have a company called Jif, which made things like lemon juice and lemon scented cleaner. Back in 2001, they changed the name to Cif, because they realised that pretty much no non-native English speaker could actually pronounce "jif". With this argument in mind, I sugg...

Re: Braces vs indent vs "end ..." syntax preference

I prefer end tags, then braces. I really dislike indenting without end tags, as it leads to the situation where if condition do x do y do z can get mangled leaving if condition do x do y do z and you can't tell just from the code that do y shouldn't necessarily be executed. An end or endif would mak...

Re: 1168: Tar

I use tar all the time, when compressing code/files to send to my home machine from work. e.g. tar cjf thesis.tar.bz thesis Off the top of my head I'm familiar with the c (create), t (test), x (extract), z (gzip), j (bzip2), and v (verbose) options, and also the -C option to extract to a different f...

Re: 0928: Mimic Octopus

I'm just registering to show my support for "octopodes". I don't just like it as the correct ending given the word's origins, I think it sounds better too (I love it when my wife pronounces it "octopo-dees").

The same goes for platypus/platypodes.
