Re: It's Just Us, League. The DCEU is dead, here's its Tombstone.

See, this is pretty weird. Drones are not super important to the plot. It feels as if they sort of shoehorned in some kind of commentary on politics or something Well right, it's presented as an example. However well intentioned, US military hegemony has a moral cost. The scene as shown doesn't app...

Re: It's Just Us, League. The DCEU is dead, here's its Tombstone.

Okay, okay. I'm not unaware that there are people who say BvS and did not like it. But most of its audience did like it, (about 63% per rotten tomatoes) and I' happen to be with the majority on this one, lucky me. I've watched it about six times, could stand to see it again, and I'm not a major rewa...

If you're going to include the Holiday Special, then why not put in Caravan of Courage and The Battle For Endor? The latter has Wilford Brimley and Johnny Weismuller Junior! I appear to have answered my own question.

Re: Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi

I can't objectively compare Empire to the new movies. I'm never going to be 12 years old watching a new SW movie. Nostalgia is powerful. So strictly in terms of how much I like them, not even trying to be objective: 1/ The Empire Strikes Back (awesome) 2 (tied)/ A New Hope, Return Of The Jedi, Rogue...

Re: Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi

I can't quite remember what I posted in my spoily mcspoilface post but... I enjoyed the movie and it moved things along nicely to a setup for Episode IX. The plot is more original than The Force Awakens and the action scenes are amazing. I was quite fooled by the fake out death of Leia and the fake ...

I've seen a few more times, and unlike some other movies it did not really improve with rewatching. Batman v Superman is still the top DCEU flick, for mine. Wonder Woman, Man of Steel, Justice League would tie for second, and I didn't like Suicide Squad at all. I would really like to have seen Snyde...

It's Just Us, League. The DCEU is dead, here's its Tombstone.

It's fine. The jokes are generally funny, the fights are exciti ng, the characters are engaging. It's not _great_ but if you watch this movie and don't enjoy it, it's because you don't want to. On the downside, the villain has nothing interesting to say, and I don't care about him any more than Doom...

Re: Things you remember watching but can't remember the name of

I remember a movie, I suppose it was from the 1980s. Two scenes I remember involve a comedian who is preparing for an audition at a comedy club. He hires a call girl who shows up at his hotel and he tells her to sit in a chair: she says something like "My back is killing me", but he just w...

Good movie, good reviews ... I wonder why it underperformed at the box office. There have been a few movies like that lately. Alien Covenant, War for the Planet of the Apes. It must be maddening for the companies: we know it is a good movie, you know it is a good movie, why aren't many people going ...

It's fair to say that all three MCU films this year have been lighthearted. I don't mind it: it's nice that they can vary the tone. Lighthearted as opposed to what? Thor: Ragnarok

I enjoyed this movie but the levels of silliness are off the charts, coming close at some points to self-parody, which potentially ruins the "spell" of a movie. It's fair to say that all three MCU films this year have been lighthearted. I don't mind it: it's nice that they can vary the ton...

Anthony Hopkins acted on TV before he was in film, and continued alongside TV for a long time (17 episodes on War and Peace in 1972-3, lots of TV films, multiple-episode guest roles). Geoffrey Rush started off in TV as well. Same with Ewan McGregor. Nicole Kidman started with TV (including a 12-epi...

Movie actors on TV

Seems to me that it is much more common for A-list movie actors to be in television shows. Fifteen years ago, for an acclaimed cinematic actor to accept a regular TV role would have been considered slumming it: probably indicate they were no longer a hot enough item for movies. A couple of exception...

There are a few frames, maybe a quarter of a second, at the end of BvS where flecks of dirt rose off Kal-El's coffin. I have read there is a Rogue Cut in which she takes over from Kitty in the task of holding Wolverine in the past.

In the theatrical release she only appears for a few seconds.

Did Rogue do anything useful through the entire series? Like attack a villain or protect someone or anything?

Introduction episodes are often a bit awkward. I suspect that the title of the season opener, "The Pilot", is a winking reference to the fact that they are looking to soft-reboot the series. The mystery of Gallifrey has gone and a new maguffin is required. I don't mind Billy, I dare say sh...

The structure of the original trilogy was very much determined by the fact that when they were making the first movie, they weren't sure it was going to be a trilogy. It is pretty self-contained, with an opening, a conflict, and a win. Having decided to proceed with the trilogy, they then needed to ...
