Re: Neal Stephenson - Anathem

Although, the "Hylean Theoric Way"...is this a rename of present day theory/ school of thought like "Occam's Razor"/ "The Steelyard"?

Basically the Platonic realm: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Platonism. Not exactly present day...

Thoughts on Anathem?

Contrary to today's comic, it's actually very enjoyable. I deliberately avoided the introduction, timeline, and glossary, and genuinely enjoyed puzzling out the meaning of words and events. In context, none of them are particularly difficult, and they all provide their own little "aha!" mo...

Re: Crysis

My favorite part though is after storming/infiltrating the school and you have to fight the tanks. I used every suit enhancement sneaking, running and jumping around the village avoiding the tanks to get to the other rocket launcher, a few times I snuck into the back of the gas station only to have...

Re: EVE Online

It's not so bad. I can generally juggle my skills so that I can do the fast ones consecutively while I'm home, then start a long one that will finish either in the morning before I leave for work, during lunch, or while I'm home at night. It's not the most optimal path if you absolutely have to have...

Re: Space flight sims: A dead genre

Oh man, I played a realistic space flight simulator a loooong time ago. There was this one ship with trilateral symmetry; I think it was the only fictional ship in the game. It had hellacious acceleration and could easily exceed the speed of light. I was zipping around Earth and I must have pushed ...

Re: EVE Online

I picked up the trial and subscribed after a few days. I'm still very much a noob, flying my Caracal around doing level 2 missions and skilling for salvage, but I'd love to join a corp. My Eve handle is Lyriss.

Re: Space flight sims: A dead genre

I looked up Orbiter on wikipedia and now I am probably going to waste half my life on it. Thanks SecondTalon. I got lost once. I flew to the moon, attempted to fly back, decided I wanted to get in faster so I turned up the speed and somehow overshot Earth. I spend the rest of my fuel trying to catc...

Re: Freelancer Successor?

Check out Darkstar One. I only played the demo, but it reminded me a lot of Freelancer and I keep telling myself I need to hunt down a copy one of these days. It controls pretty much the same, and has the same open-ended "dick around for fun or do story missions to advance" structure. The ...
