you guys should definitely read Blokken by Ferdinand Bordewijk. Only problem is that it's originally Dutch, and I couldn't find a translation online (only looked quick). It's a pretty short story, but really neat.

I really love it that there are more ppl who like dystopian sci fi, like I do. I know NO ONE irl who does. So that's the sort of books I read most: Sci-fi-cyberpunk-dystopia-ish. But I also like other sci fi subgenres and some fantasy. Oh wait, I also like to read books about political ideolegies.

Re: Books that you're disappointed in after having finished.

HP didn't end cool. He just should've died. And that last chapter was really pathetic and useless.

After 7 I reread #1, and the style and tone were soooo different. I think it really changed after #3 and that's a shame, though maybe it had to be like that, for the storyline...

Re: Ratings appropriate for young children

The main culprits behind the sanitization of children's programming are the groups of mothers (and a few hen-pecked fathers) who have nothing better to do (like get a job) than to protest cartoon or TV violence and demand that family programming be sanitized beyond recognition. A lot of religious g...

Spoiler:
I don't think the Suki/Azula/Sokka thing will happen like that. It would be awesome the way you described anywayz, but it's too 'dark' for the series. At least for the series so far. Really who has died? Even Zuko's mother is alive.

But don't forget katara is never fast enough to make the first hit. Really, She needs to transport water near Toph first, whilst Toph can start right away. And I think (Tophs earthbending skills)/(Katara's waterbendings skills) > 1. Probably even > 1.2

Re: Ratings appropriate for young children

rating systems are overrated. Really, I think NOT LETTING kids 'face' stuff like violence, deaths and sex is WORSE for them then LETTING them 'deal with it'. Of course there are levels like you wouldn't let your kid see the bathroom scene in Scarface at age 10, but you would let them see the stamped...

I agree that Katara could give Toph a hard time, but

mud contains earth

and what if

Spoiler:
Toph just went underground and attacked Katara from there.

Only thing Katara could do is

Spoiler:
staying of the ground, maybe on some layer of ice.

but

Spoiler:
she can do that anywayz

so that

Spoiler:
Toph can't see her

Andromeda Nebula by Ivan Yefremov.

I read a little synopsis and it really intrigued me (its sci-fi in a communist future) but I thought it was really disappointing, I had a hard time forcing myself to finish it. Just to much romantisizing to me.

I never just read one book. ATM I read these:

Schismatrix by Bruce Sterling
Quotations from Chairman Mao Zedong
Cryptanalysis by Helen Fouche Gaines

Mostly I read fiction (currently Schismatrix). But other times I more feel like reading something more political/learninglike
