Re: I Need A New Guitar + It Needs to Sound Like "WHOA!"

I'm not a guitar player by nature, nor am I intimately familiar with the 'signature tones' on all the songs mentioned, but I am a sound junkie ('audio' is to specific'), and with that in mind, I can impart the following blather: If you do not have the exact same guitar and other equipment as the ori...

No Longer Knowing - When did this start happening?

When do we separate what we know from what we can never know? Back when I was just starting high-school - or, more to a point, when I was at the end of elementary school - I was a knowledge hungry little fellow. I wanted to know everything. I wanted to be a scientist when I grew up. In Grade 9, I re...

Re: Powernoise, Noise, Dark Ambient...

The Merzbox is a little * intimidating for anyone who is looking to get into anything like that. It, generally speaking, isn't really his greatest work, either. It would be really awesome to own a legit copy of the Merzbox, though. I only have it in MP3 form. That's how I have most of my noise, rea...

Re: Imagination land- Your perfect place, time, event, situation

The medley of different 'perfects' available in all these little spoiler tags is the best example of beauty I've seen in a while. It makes me appreciate life a lot more? All the diversity therein is just spectacular. At first, I thought there would be a large amount of people demanding significant o...

Re: Electric Guitar into sound card

I'd like to hear more about this teaching software / Guitar Hero stuff? I've had a tricked out sound card for a little while, and would seriously consider buying a guitar/bass if I could learn this way. Not that I'm not teaching myself already... this would just be a lot easier. On a different note,...

This is a darn cool thread. Akula, your job sounds awesome. What is it like working on a commission? I think I would love a job like that, but I probably need to hear some horror stories first, eh? I just started working at a Subway (semi-fast food? = retail?) about four months ago - it's basically ...

This thread contains just pretty much some of the coolest stuff I've ever heard of.

It makes me wish I was still in school with a whole world of people to expose to general weirdness. I guess there are always more people in the world though, eh?

Re: REALLY Annoying Misconceptions

Finally, I have to take the other side when you call it the evolution of music. I simply can't agree there. Music needs a sort of bendable limitation to be classified as music and not just sound. I say bendable because I am reminded of a milder form of what you speak of that only ignored some rules...

Re: REALLY Annoying Misconceptions

@slasher There's a difference between expanding upon the bounds of music through experimentation and ignoring them entirely. A lot of this "highly creative avant-garde" music is pure crap because it completely ignores the foundation of music, particularly aesthetic appeal. And for what? I...

Re: REALLY Annoying Misconceptions

That still doesn't address the issue of whether creativity, in and of itself, is worthy of regard. Arguably people don't have to discount the fact that it is creative to look at it and say its utter garbage. I would wager that many a person would be flabbergasted upon considering the outcome of an ...

Re: How do adults make friends?

Move away. In the US people have been steadily migrating away from rural areas and into suburban and urban ones. The reasons are obvious--you have been suffering from the biggest (worst) ones. What do you think of some place like San Fran, or Chicago, or Boston, etc etc etc? other questions: Why ar...

Vancouver - April 5th Noise Show Meet?

Hi anyone. There's a noise 'fest'/'show' occurring in Vancouver on April 5th - just a gathering of random acts from around Canadia, in the 'noise/experimental/spazz' genre. I don't know if anyone on this forum happens to live there, or even furthermore, happens to be into noise or experimental music...

Re: Post YOUR music here

Why does your avatar have only 6 beats in a measure of 7/8? Pickup bar? It's because it's improperly notated. I noticed that seconds after I first posted in the intro thread, but I still think it looks alright anyway. The song itself, as well as the beat, are both pretty swell, and even though the ...

After reading this whole thread over, I have the following things to say! 1. Noise is WONDERFUL, but it's almost impossible to track down if you don't have a semi-undergroundish music store, and lots of cash for CDs. Right now, I've got a bunch of harsh noise, but nothing particularly obscure or delicious. I would love to get my hands on some CCCC and Incapacitants, especial...

Where are all the post detailing obscene amounts of pedals? I have a fetish for guitar pedals, but I don't even use a guitar. I'm all about feedback loops over here.
