Re: Battle School Slang

The word they used for army, Jeesh, is from the Arabic word for the same, Jaysh (spelled jeem yaa shin), as in Jaysh al'Mahdi.

Re: "Height" Discussion

I would simply like to add that Reaver Territory should be noted in there somewhere. Maybe for the door poster version.

Re: Into the Wild

While I haven't seen the movie, I'm familiar with the story. Frankly, the kid was an idiot who was either too foolish or too lazy to learn how to live in the wild before starving to death. It's really a cautionary tale, like that Despair.com poster: "It may be that the sole purpose of your life...

Re: Influence of American English over other languages

Re: Give me Vampires!

Yeah, I gotta third the Buffy nomination. Everything else is irrelevant. Note: Season 8 of comics is awesome - they just completed a really good Faith arc.

Re: Strong Female Protagonists

Not books, but TV rather, and the obvious: Anything by Joss Whedon - Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, and Firefly all had awesome female characters.

Also Elliot Reid from Scrubs, from the third season on.

Re: Worst pun ever

So Quasimodo, the hunchback of Notre Dame, died, and the archbishop needed another hunchback to ring the bells of the cathedral. So he put out an ad in the Paris newspaper. After a couple weeks, a hunchback showed up in his office, but he didn't have any arms! So the archbishop says, "How are y...
