Re: TVs in public places.

My hospital department has two TVs. One is used for playing DVDs, either nature documentaries or family films, inoffensive stuff. The other is generally tuned to a commercial channel (ITV), but muted with subtitles up. Because people might be waiting with us for a while, it's good to have the distra...

The problem is that dark matter can be made to fit any observational data. It can't be detected directly, so anything that looks like it shouldn't hold together under "normal" gravitational effects is assumed to be down to dark matter. Unfortunately, there's never been a direct detection o...

Re: British EU referendum in June [update: Leave wins 52% - 48%, politics ensue]

I'm cautiously optimistic now that Parliament has to have a vote on triggering Article 50 (I don't see the appeal against the judgement getting very far, unless they come up with a very clever new line of argument). I'm pretty sure the majority of MPs want to retain access to the European Single Mar...

This is a vaguely relevant What If for me. I'm going to a beer festival on Saturday, and donating blood on Monday, so I phoned the blood service advice line to check if that was OK. They said it was - they wouldn't advise drinking on the same day as giving blood, but as long as I didn't do that or f...

I haven't been burned by fire. But yesterday, I made cheese-stuffed chicken breast for dinner, and when I bit into it a bit of hot cheese squirted on my face. I have been burned by cheese.

Is anyone doing anything for the Born Of The Gods release? My local games shop is doing a midnight prerelease running to about 5 in the morning on the Saturday, with events in the daytime on Saturday and Sunday. I'm going to try to play in them all.

We had draft at FNM tonight, and it went pretty well for me. I went for a creature-led red-black deck, as that's how the cards came.
