Re: Differentiate the function: sqrt(10)/(x^7)

Thank you very much! Not sure if I could have figured that one out by tomorrow without the help.

Re: Differentiate the function: sqrt(10)/(x^7)

So the correct form to start differentiating will be sqrt(10)*x^-7 which would differentiate into sqrt(10)*-7x^-8?

Re: Differentiate the function: sqrt(10)/(x^7)

Ah! I'm a bit foggy about it but I understand 1/x^2 is actually x^-2, is that what your getting at?. Silly part is I can't think of the reasoning behind it. Is there a specific name to that process?

Re: Differentiate the function: sqrt(10)/(x^7)

Yes, this problem is actually in the section that begins showing us these rules:
power, sum, difference, and constant rules.

Differentiate the function: sqrt(10)/(x^7)

This is actually a homework problem but I need it more for a test I'm taking tomorrow. I attempted to use the quotient rule but as I was using it I realized we aren't supposed to be using it(we learned quotient rule in 2.4, exam goes up to 2.3-if i got this problem on the test I wouldn't be allowed ...

Re: Cats: Indoors or Out

One got sick and had to get put down because some *angry words here* dumped anti freeze likely on purpose into the alley(anti freeze is extremely sweet, animals love it but it of course kills them). This doesn't make sense. Cats are purely predators and hence can't taste sweet . It basically doesn'...

Re: Cats: Indoors or Out

Depends on the location. Some areas might be fine to leave cats out. My dad grew up in the outskirts of a town so coyotes got any stray cats. Where I live now, the middle of the city, we used to have 2 cats that would roam the streets some. One got sick and had to get put down because some *angry wo...

Re: Curious thing about thread creation

the XKCD forums seem to be unique in this aspect. outside of the 'post your mug' threads that are on most forums, this is the first one that I've seen that has DOZENS of threads with 50 or many more pages while specific little topics don't crop up so much. Its amazingly relieving and it has so far o...

Re: Pant Thread (because we need more panting)

In a similar vein, I want to play DoW: DC as a race other than 'crons or tau but the base game and Winter assault won't install. I remember the DOW games REQUIRE you to install them in a certain order. When I first bought it I looked up any problems with installs and that was everywhere. Side note:...

Re: Dorm/Apartment/house on a 'budget'

Yeah I sort of realize the huge cost "little" things can be. Last year I was buying from a vending machine a granola bar almost every other day. Those damn things were 1.25 a piece! Now I'm buying that sort of thing in bulk(hooray for less than 50 cents ea.!). The major change that would h...

Re: Dorm/Apartment/house on a 'budget'

Don't know why I didn't go to craigslist first, I've used it for dozens of other things. I have ~12 tabs of both affordable and likable ads just from the past 2 days! I guess I never thought about the weekly budget yet. I can live quite well on some basic foods but I realize that I may be wanting to...

Dorm/Apartment/house on a 'budget'

I'm into my third semester at my university and have finally had the inkling of wanting to move out of my parents house. I'm going on scholarships and luckily have a decent amount left over. Since I don't have a job and don't in the foreseeable future see myself having one I would have to likely use...

Re: How much are you paying for books this semester?

This semester its only around 350. My first two semesters last year was in the range of 600-1000 each though. I was sort of surprised seeing i didn't have to fork out so much this time around.

Re: Beast Wars(and, to a lesser extent, Beast Machines)

I never really had the childhood nostalgia for Beast Wars since I was either at the end of middle school or starting high school when it started airing, so I don't think I ever really had a chance to watch it. I tried watching the DVDs through Netflix, but I couldn't get into it. The CG was just to...

Beast Wars(and, to a lesser extent, Beast Machines)

How many people here watched this? This was THE SHOW of my childhood for me, and I still like popping one of the dvds in to watch a couple episodes. It was the first show that I watched that had a continuous plot that you had to follow which was new and amazing to me. I'm still a little bitter that ...

Re: The Great Recommendation Thread (Movie, TV, Anime, Carto

Some people will disagree with me, but I highly recommend the scifi movie Sunshine. Every synopsis I've read has had spoilers, so I guess I can throw in my own. The movie starts off in Icarus II, a ship heading straight for the sun with a small crew on board. Their mission is to inject something int...

I still have no idea how i got an A in that class. I believe that is referred to as a "curve". Oh i know there was a curve, but it must have been hefty. Had there been no curve I calculated I would get somewhere between 73 and 79 percent. I guess it did make sense though, that professor g...

Well, i guess I have to buy this. Just from watching totalhalibuts WTF on it I was drooling. It also helped that the guy was gleefully making references to the universe. With every game released I get closer and closer to wanting to read some of the novels and playing the tabletop game.

Rant: I'm sick of how much shit people give me about not voting. It isn't that I don't think my vote would make a difference. It's that the difference is so minuscule relative to the amount of time and effort required to have a truly informed political opinion, that by my cost-benefit analysis it i...

My memory of math-and how it frustrates me. Advice wanted!

Quick edit: I'm a total dork. Test 1 is 9/22 not 8/22. I did not lose 8% of my grade yesterday, but everything else is still accurate. Preface: It looks like I blame others for all this, but this isn't a 'pity me' thread. Whats already happened has happened and I am more focused on how to make the f...

Re: Pant Thread (because we need more panting)

Three days into the semester I failed a calculus for engineers exam(worth 16% of my total grade). It had sounded like it was just an algebra review-which it was-to be taken in the testing center. The problem being that it was a little more than 'knowing how to factor and such' and I hadn't studied t...

I think the 'spend hours on assignmen...
