Re: 0816: Applied Math

Godel's theorem comes in two parts: one implies that predicate logic is incomplete. It's actually the second part that's weirder, it says that any sufficiently powerful axiom system CANNOT prove itself to be CONSISTENT! Yes I'm serious. It's really weird. But let's say even if a system COULD prove i...

But someone will screw it up and salons will charge $75 to make your hair look like you just got out of bed. Just like you can spend extra to buy jeans that already have been torn to shreds for you. And when that happens, who wins in the end? The stupid women who end up wasting $75 for a look their...

Re: "Seismograph" Discussion

Even as a kid, when watching the movie Liar Liar with Jim Carey, I kept wondering, why doesn't he just try saying things like "there is currently no intelligent life in our solar system besides on Earth" or something? How about "the Riemann hypothesis is false?" I mean seriously...

This reminds me of the movie Moon. Stupid Sam Bell, here I was all concerned for him for being a clone who was made just to work on the moon his whole life while his family was taken over by the original Sam Bell and all. But then the director told me that, really, the original Sam agreed to make th...

Cliff is 207 meters high. Hope it's a nice view, Randall. How do you know how high the cliff is? Wouldn't his time in the air depend on the speed he went off the cliff at? Edit: Okay I'm tired of waiting around for someone to angrily correct me. I'm going to go to bed now and stop trolling for nerds.

I wonder if Randall has been reading Rudy Rucker... he often includes cuttlefish in his sci-fi stories. Also, he wrote a book called "The Lifebox, the Seashell and the Soul- What Gnarly Computation Taught Me About Ultimate Reality, the Meaning Of Life , and How To Be Happy" Which talks a l...

So forces from outside our visible universe can actually reach us. But only if the point where they originated once was within our visible universe. Re: "Dark Flow" Discussion

Acutally, now that I think about it, does the idea of an object outside the visible universe affecting an object within the visible universe even make sense? Or does the term "visible universe" in this context mean something different to the "theoretically-observable universe"? ...

Re: Quantum Teleportation

I think we should probably define what exactly constitutes "you" as that seems to be the sticky point in the discussion. Perhaps you only exist in one moment in time. In other words, the "you" of two seconds ago is really another person entirely from the you right now. After all...

I think the argument for Eddie being their offspring is pretty strong, too, since he's so childish. I'm not sure where HHGG fits in the timeline, though. Would infinite improbability cover a computer program older than its parents? Hello? The world hasn't been destroyed by the Vogons yet? Therefor ...
