Re: Trump presidency

It is a good hypothetical situation to think about. I think that he can just hop on Air Force 1, demand to be flown to Moscow and then it happens. He can probably find a loyal pilot somewhere, who will fly him there no matter what. The biggest problem in this hypothetical scenario is probably his ow...

Nadine Dorries seriously just complained that the Brexit deal gives us "no MEPs, no commissioner, no votes".

Seriously, how is this a thing? I need more than two hands to facepalm now.

I think I would go for the most competetive situation. That way no one is safe, and representatives actually have to do work.

Re: 2018 Midterm Elections Coverage

You can see the effect of gerrymandering. The GOP has done a lot in the last district changing, far more than the democrats, which is the main reason for the difficulties. This is 538's proportional district redrawing. 174 regularly blue districts, 179 regularly red districts. It doesn't tell exactl...

Labour has already largely lost Scotland. In 2010, they had 41 constituencies (SNP had 6), in 2015, they had just one (SNP had 56), and in 2017, they got six (SNP dropped to 35, Tories went to 13). Unless the SNP experiences a total collapse, Labour will never get the Scottish heartland back, and cu...

Dictatorships never happen overnight. Hitler needed years to do it in Germany. Mussolini needed several years as PM until he got rid of the opposition and could stop pretending. I wonder how Rick Scott is so popular... Could anyone explain?

There is one thing about this map: I can't see the incumbent party in the Senate race. It's very nicely done in the house race, but in the Senate race that's missing.

Well, pretty sure Collins is out. Not sure how competitive his district was before. Chris Collins arrested for insider trading. He won his seat in 2016 with a 34.6% margin. 270towin gives the margins for both the house seat and the presidency's vote in that district now. So it was a very safe seat.
