It's not a suicide move because in placing the stone there, you remove 3 stones and thus the threat to the black stone. http://playgo.to/iwtg/en/images/illegal.gif Like this, black wouldn't be able to play, it's an illegal move. http://playgo.to/iwtg/en/images/illegal2.gif But here, black can play a...

Re: Government Simulation Game

Sweet lord, a sign up. Welcome! We need... to be honest, quite a few more people to start. President, PM, opposition party leader, minister of defence and communist rebels are all important. If we had those 5, we could get going, though this game has capacity for so many more.

Government Simulation Game

There seems to be an awful lot of counting games here, so I thought I'd try to mix things up with a GovSim. Basically, how this works is that we have a fictional nation, in this case, the Republic of Verada, a small Latin American country bordering Guatemala and Mexico, during the Cold War, and peop...

Re: You are the last person left on earth. What do you do?

1. Find some chimpanzees.
2. Gene therapy to make them smarter.
3. Educate them.
4. PLANET OF THE APES.

Also, very definitely write about myself in some permanent way so that future generations and aliens and such know that I was the last human.

Re: Democracy and AI

Requiring one to have a certain amount of wealth to be allowed to vote would solve this. The economy would become politics but that wouldn't necessarily be bad. Yes, brilliant, there's no way that could ever become a problem. Openly disenfranchising part of the population only ever has good consequ...

Re: Balance of Power - The Cold War forum game

To be honest, you need at least, say, 5 people to play. A good game would need like 10 active people minimum, and there've been games with 30-40 people before, which are fun. If anyone is interested in this and other similar forum games, you can check out http://bop.nfshost.com but yeah, it doesn't ...

Re: Balance of Power - The Cold War forum game

I am the USSR. I start and end this game by launching about 200 nuclear weapons at India, Israel, the USA, and Great Britain. Also, I will launch about 20 nuclear weapons solely at France just because.. "You have ignited a nuclear war. And no, there is no animated display of a mushroom cloud w...

Balance of Power - The Cold War forum game

Some of you may have heard of the game, Balance of Power, by Chris Crawford, released in 1985. This is sort of like that, but a forum version of it. Players select nations to play as, for example, USA, USSR, PRC, UK, France, ROC, etc., depending on the period of history we're playing in. We pick a s...

Re: What if Brazil became a superpower?

1. Brazil and Nuclear Weapons Yes, Brazil once had a secret project to develop nuclear weapons during the 1970s and 80s. But they dismantled the programme in the 1990s and signed the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and are regulated by the IAEA. They wont make nuclear weapons, they have no real ne...

Re: 0943: "Empirical"

So basically, "will you marry me?" roughly means "Is it your will to marry me?". And since it's a very formulaic expression, it hasn't changed much in the past few hundred years. German! Where "wollen", the conjugations of which are "ich will", "du wills...

Re: Libya's Protests and Civil War

Apparently African mercenaries recruited by Gaddafi are escaping the country in large numbers.

News that rebels have been talking with loyalists in Sirte about a surrender of the city. Similar situation in Ras Lanuf too. And the rebels control the border with Tunisia now.

Re: 0943: "Empirical"

The joke's really funny, I like the comic very much. But I would like to point out to anyone in the forums who doesn't know it yet: "will" originally meant something akin to the modern word "want" (which lives on in the expression "be willing to"). Hence the expression...
