Re: 1389: "Surface Area"

Once we start building free orbiting rotating space stations their combined inhabitable surface area is going to dwarf anything the planets and moons could provide by many orders of magnitude. I mean, the surface to volume ratio on Earth is 2,000,000m³ for every 1m² of surface area. Even if you need...

Re: 1170: "Bridge"

Re: 1129: "Cell Number"

Last time I was in the US my German cell phone worked. Meaning I was able to call people that I had arrived from my German phone number while I was standing in front of their house in the middle of the US. Now the roaming fees were €1.50 a minute, so I got myself a prepaid card with an American numb...

Re: "Hell" Discussion

As far as I'm concerned even normal Tetris is Hell. It's a game you cannot win. You can just keep playing and experience it becoming harder and harder until it's eventually so fast that you'll fail no matter what.

That's Hell in my book. No round bottom required...

Similarly, no human actually went into space, but the moon landing was real. No, actually the truth is that Apollo 11 and 12 were fake just to make it look as if the Russians had been beat and Kennedy’s timetable had been met. Apollo 13 was the first failed attempt at actually landing on the Moon. ...

Re: "Drama" Discussion

I think the only way you can make sex easy without drama is to create a Matrix-like virtual reality environment that allows consequence-free promiscuous behavior with simulated drama thrown in—the same way that Grand Theft Auto IV allows you to create consequence-free mayhem in sociopath heaven. In ...

Hey, is anybody into “Dollhouse,” BTW?

The guy who played Wash in Firefly is in Dollhouse now, and he’s already funny. I had to laugh so hard at his line about this being like one of those buddy cop movies, “where you’re the hard-nosed FBI agent and I’m the guy who really hates buddy cop movies…”

It's possible for the laws to be different but still provide the same everyday results. If people were born with zero-point energy power cells in their bodies, I doubt our everyday lives would have been the same… I fail to see how Zero-point energy is at all relevant to this. I was just using it as...

Re: "Matrix Revisited" Discussion

In your "alternate universe" where the First law of thermodynamics does not apply, perpetual motion machines would be possible. In a universe with unlimited "free" energy, the machines wouldn't NEED to use humans as batteries. The "back-story" still doesn't make sense!...

I laugh heartily at the fools who think our understanding of physics applies to the Matrix world. Conservation of energy? Thermodynamics? Don't make me laugh. The law of thermodynamics broken inside the Matrix virtual reality wouldn’t have bothered me. The fact that they used it as a real world exp...

Noticed a lot of talk about the humans=batteries thing, so I thought I'd set up an account just to make a point about this. The whole point of the first film is that it starts off in what we think is the real world, with Neo eventually finding out its just a simulation called the "Matrix"...

Actually I hated the explanation for the existence of the Matrix. Hasn’t anyone told its authors that human beings consume solar energy rather than producing their own energy? Jesus, if that’s as much as people know about where our energy comes from, no wonder we’re presently in an energy crisis whi...

Re: Quantum Teleportation

The funny thing about Star Trek teleportation is that it was merely a cost-cutting measure, because they couldn’t afford model shuttles land on planet models every show. So they decided, let’s just make people appear on our soundstage out of nothing with a little optical effect. It was really a cop-...

Also I’d be much more interested in our prospects to build space elevators, to solve our energy and living space crisis of our present, bottom-feeding existence on top of the outer layer of the crust of this magma ball, like mold on a wall, by building a habitable, arable, tethered ring in geostatio...

Have any of you watched the History Channel documentary “Life After People?” It claims about our belief that our radio waves will survive us as they spread out into the Universe that they really won’t but pretty much be swallowed up by background noise only a light year or so out. So if we disappear...
