Re: [Trigger warning: classic literature]

The big issue is that cause is not the same as the trigger. Biggest trigger I know for PTSD people is sudden loud noises. What's being depicted is often irrelevant. It's often the HOW of the depiction. Can you clarify how you're distinguishing cause from trigger? Also, I thought that the idea was j...

Re: [Trigger warning: classic literature]

I can understand the seperation between "what's on the list" and "how should it be handled". But I think that a major part of "How to handle" is "who makes the list, and how". You appear rather confident that this process will go well in most cases, with only...

Who cares about Olympic football, with world and European (or other regional) cups and then stuff like champions league next to it. Same goes for tennis. There's already grand slams and opens and whatnot, so why make it Olympic? Also, everything with horses has got to go. The Olympics is probably t...

Re: Look who else rape culture is hurting

No rape, no rape play. It's that simple. For him and his partner to enjoy their play, rape must exist. This is true for BDSM as well. If there is a problem it would devolve around, it might be because it feeds a rather obvious stereotypical response from rapists. She/he wanted it. No didn't mean no...

Even after negotiating for months, I still had this little voice in the back of head, whispering that I was a terrible person for liking this. And that makes me mad. When my grandmother was in the hospital for cancer, my mother went to take care of her overnight. Apparently, my grandmother told her that my uncle had forgotten to lock the balcony door, even though she hadn't been home for at least 2 weeks. Turns out that was exactly what happened. Not sure if thi...

I seem to recall them blocking US Congress too. It's no different to when they block anyone else, or even entire schools — they want the information to be freely editable, but won't accept vandalisation (either with gibberish or deliberately false information), which is a fair enough restriction. Re: Detroit students suspended after demanding education

If I'm interpreting Azrael's argument correctly (and please correct me if I'm wrong), a major reason neighboring districts don't want to accept Detroit students is that Detroit can't compensate them for tuition fees. Whereas, on the other hand, the neighboring districts are able to make up for the c...

I think the majority opinion is a good call in terms of jurisprudence-- not deciding more than is necessary. I do, however, want to see some cases involving uses of new technology that Alito and Sotomayor allude to brought before the Court.

Yeah, I could envision using it as a netbook if the price came down a bit more. Kindle + web access, really, which is pretty sweet IMO. I don't think 64 GB would be a problem, especially if you move files onto a desktop or something.
