Re: 1732: "Earth Temperature Timeline"

Hmmmm ... I suddenly want to create a graph of the Dow Jones for the last 50 years (adjusted for inflation, plotted on a sliding average of 5 years). Re: 1674: "Adult"

Much better but 'Can you believe this?' should be included in the quotation.

This comic resonates with me, sometimes I look at my son while he sleeps and think 'you poor bastard, your dads a big fraud', in spite of the evidence to the contrary.

Re: 1250: "Old Accounts"

I've never been convinced any forum worth a damn deletes anything. They either flag a post status as deleted or throw it into an archive. If your SQL filters the posts by a different status, it just gives off the illusion the post is gone. Still, if it's not seen on the internet, it's good enough f...

Re: 1203: "Time Machines"

I think from his perspective the switch won't budge, it appears to be jammed in the OFF position for the reasons stated above.Annoyingly, the switch will toggle just fine if you unplug the machine. Just don't grab a friend to pull the plug just as you switch it on, because then you're going to be st...

Re: What-If 0026: Leap Seconds

Are the magnetic poles far enough away from the axis of rotation that an array of superconducting coils straddling the circumference of the planet would be able to impart a little force against the earth's magnetic field? Or is that a non starter?

If you haven't seen this over the last few weeks, then welcome back from your holiday.

Music will get stuck in your head, but that's a good thing.

Re: 0956: "Sharing"

So the tree mirrors the one in the book, in that it's giving the protagonists shade and a story which they take for granted and ultimately ignore, but it's also graphically mirroring the tree from the kindle app, the Amazon lending schemes and the commercialisation of sharing. As usual I'm both impr...
