Re: 0871: "Charity"

I think this is a "perfect is the enemy of good" problem. Just because it would be incredibly painful to *really* give all you can shouldn't keep us from giving. I spend less on food so that I can give away more. But once I'm down to (in boston) $100/month, further cuts would make me much...

Re: 0871: "Charity"

Just a thought: if you really cared, you would dedicate your entire life to eradicating human suffering. Every hour and every cent would either go into your own survival or someone else's. You would live on as little as you could, to support as many people as you could. That's how much suffering the...

Re: INTRO THREAD THE THIRD

No no no I only have one account here. I meant that I have an account on just about every Linux distro forum out there, but I'm not active on most of them.

Re: INTRO THREAD THE THIRD

I don't think I introduced myself, so... Hi. I'm Gullible Jones. You can find me (or one of my accounts) on probably any Linux forum. I might be famous. Probably not. I'm 22, and a Comp Sci student at UMass. (For various reasons I won't specify which UMass here.) Due to a number of setbacks and rest...

Re: 0847: "Stingray Nebula"

I loved this comic, punchline or no. And I have had the same thought as Samwise, though I'd forgotten those lines a while ago... This world has a lot of evil in it, but maybe, just maybe, things are better somewhere out there. That's what I used to think anyway. These days, I have some doubts. Also ...

Re: Distros with grsecurity kernels

Thank you, but I'm looking for distros with the kernel actually in their repositories... I don't like compiling my own kernel as recompiling whenever there's an update is a pain.

Distros with grsecurity kernels

Can anyone here give me a list of distros that have grsecurity kernels in their repositories? I'm looking for a more secure Linux distro, and I'm having a bit of trouble, as Distrowatch doesn't have a "search by kernel patchset" function...

How to block a Linux driver from loading?

I'm not talking about modules; I'm talking about drivers that have been compiled into the kernel. You see, I've been trying out a distro that uses a kernel containing both libata and ide drivers for my machine's hardware, and the kernel is a relatively recent one in which the combined-mode hack for ...

Re: "Nightmares" Discussion

I have to second saus' comment. This strip is wicked.

(Food for thought: could a dream-simulacrum of a person be sentient? Does the brain put any significant
amount of processing power into simulating peoples' behavior in dreams? Does anyone know?)
