Bad Religion song off the cd The New America... considering it's the title of the song, I don't know how I was so confused, but who reads song titles these days? Anywho, the line is "you've got a chance" and I always heard it as "give god a chance", which, if you've listened to B...

Dilinger Four! Jesus christ this band is good. Their new album is quite swell, as well. Brad Sucks is a one-man band I recently picked up, and I enjoy the music, although it reminds me too much of the music I listened to in high school. In other news, Searle's "human brain emulation" example was used to show the weakness of Strong AI. That is to say, he admitted that if we can emulate an entire brain then yes, we have created true AI, but that wasn't the point of Strong AI research at the time. At that time, Strong AI's g...

Re: Philosophy underpins everything?

The amount of ignorance here is pretty impressive. It is almost offensive that so many people would bash philosophy in the same way that a religious zealot would bash evolutionary biology. The first thing you need to criticize anything is a thorough understanding of it. Instead of lampooning quotes,...

I have to agree with most people that the movie was a flop. I enjoyed the antics of Superbad quite a bit, but I'm all for random humor. This movie seemed too focused on its plot to have that level of randomness.

I really, really liked how the series developed all the characters. A lesser series would have just developed a core group and been done with it. But the writers here really showed some skill when you felt a bond with almost every character in the story. This is probably one of the few series in whi...

Re: eating meat

From a religious standpoint, God gave us dominion over the animals. As such, to give them any significance beyond our use, belies our spirituality as being unique to us. God gave me dominion over my dick, and I'm not treating it poorly. From a physiological/evolutionary standpoint, we are omnivores...

Suppose that animals didn't feel pain. Would it be okay to farm/eat them, then? If so, should scientists work on genetically engineering animals without nociceptors? Did everyone just kinda give up on this happening? Also, I'd like to point out that the poll is a bit unfair.
