Re: anybody else seen Darren Aronofsky's 'The Fountain'?

Certainly. But I don't think Aronofsky deliberated intended to make his film confusing; he simply focuses on emotional logic and emotional continuity over the literal connections. I think this film is much for the theme than the plot. Other movies (or books) have a solid, easily interpreted plot an...

The guy from Mastodon's Blood Mountain. Plenty of trials and tribulations to be had. The main character has to eat his own hand.

Re: Philip K. Dick's crazy side

Anyone who can write a novel about how the world would have turned out if the Allies had one WWII, in a novel where the premise is that the Axis powers had won WWII, shows some degree of above average intelligence, or at least creativity. It's one thing to immerse yourself in an alternate timeline, ...

Re: Favourite Game Plot? (there might just be spoilers)

I just wish that the main character would say something. The Silent Main Character is a misguided design tactic used by far too many games. It only really works with Zelda titles. That's just because we all remember and tremble in fear of what it's like when link actually talks. Cmon, I know you re...

Re: Books that made you cry

I read The Five People You Meet In Heaven in one sitting the eve of my grandfather's death. I grew up with my grandfather and his life story (rags to riches cliché) is incredibly inspiring to me. I remember that I started crying at about page 150 out of 224 and continued to cry well past the time I ...

Re: Ender's Game / time frame

I enjoy reading books in one sitting. It gives me a greater sense of accomplishment.
A few memorable books I've read in one go :
Anthem
Ender's Game
The Five People You Meet In Heaven
Fahrenheit 451
Dune

I'm sure there's more, but I'm too lazy to list.

Dick Cheney.
I think he's gambled with death so much that he must be cheating.
Not to mention that he's an awful VP.

Re: Why does my perception of vision change after Guitar Hero?

It's relatable to an astigmatism. If you have a mild astigmatism your eyes are used to bending a certain way to let enough light in for optimal vision. Once you start using glasses your eyes struggle to bend back to normal and sometimes gives a painful feeling to your eyes. It's just the human mind ...

Re: Favourite Game Plot?

Chrono Trigger It employs an actual diverse RPG story line without using the "find the x amount of crystals/pendants/keys and unlock the final boss" formula. I enjoyed it thoroughly from beginning to end. It has side stories that incorporate themselves with the main plotline and the time t...

Re: Best Concert You've Been To

The Tool concert I went to two years ago was absolutely incredible. The last song and encore (Lateralus and Ænema) were the most amazing songs I've ever seen. Also, I saw Between The Buried And Me last summer in a club that could only hold about 500. I held hands with the singer and shook hands with...

Use the comic, "Substitute," as a basis. I'm not quite sure how you would explain the raptor theme of it, but they would make some badass shirts.

Lord of the Flies

I think it's fantastic but it does bring up a lot of debate whether it's a good or poor read. All of the peers I've talked with over this novel just "can't seem to get into it." A shame, in my opinion.

Re: Instrumental rock

Some interesting instrumental bands: Tera Melos - terrifyingly complex math rock Umphrey's McGee (Not an entirely instrumental band but have plenty of tracks that are) - jazzy prog jam rock Pelican - already covered by RedMaggit, but I'll reiterate Russian Circles - in the same vein as Pelican, but ...
