Re: Transphobic Tampon Ad

Only real women menstruate Since everyone has pointed out how this is insulting to a lot of women cis or trans, I want to just point out that it's also quite insulting to a lot of trans men. and that to a certain degree a woman who does menstruate should fight society's shame to the point of it bei...

It's about time he gets caught. Dexter has been ridiculously sloppy this season.

Spoiler:
I disagree, the twist was a long time coming and the show absolutely needed it to happen to try and make it good again.

Re: Joss Whedon doing director things again.

"We should split up" ... "Really?"

I'm guessing that he's trying to see what the "Five friends go to a remote cabin in the woods. Bad things happen" storyline would be like without all the cliches that generally make it shit.

Re: Has anyone seen "The Big Bang Theory"?

Haha the title of this thread seems ludicrous! As if the kind of people who really enjoy xkcd wouldn't have tuned into a show about physicists =P I love it. Though yes, quite disappointing when no one in my physics class is quite the same as Sheldon. I've seen 10 minutes of it roughly, and would ra...

Re: The notation "a/bc"

Well obviously a computer will read "1/2e" as (1/2)e since that is what it officially means. But we're humans, not computers. We are both lazy and capable of interpreting things depending on context. And we can use that to our advantage. There's a lot of ambiguity in notation. But usually...

For what it's worth. The main character in Player Of Games is a citizen of The Culture while Consider Phlebas is mainly from the POV of someone who is an enemy of The Culture. So you do get a better idea of what The Culture is all about and how Special Circumstances operates in Player Of Games and s...

Oh good a sane thread about this video. I'm actually having to try and explain to people on another forum why this isn't okay.

More importantly, I really hope she can get his parenting "rights" to her sister revoked.

Re: "Oh no! We forgot how to say... math... stuff!"

I think the way we define indefinite integrals doesn't make much sense, we're sort of pretending that they equal other functions with arbitrary constants, when they describe entire sets of functions. So I think having

[imath]\int f(x) dx = \int f[/imath] = {F|F'=f} would make more sense.

Of course. "Masculine" and "Feminine" are culturally structured words. I just happen to use positive definitions for each of them rather than the negative ones. The idea that you can somehow control the total connotations of a word, rather than just the ones you like, is curious...

Also, if we lived in a world where boyfriends paid us every day for being with them, wouldn't that make us all prostitutes? I am confused by this game. Ah but you see, Car Washer isn't paying to be someone's girlfriend, he's just giving her a fixed amount of money on a daily basis to be his girlfri...

For the first time in forever, I think the map pool looks decent. I'm having a really hard time imagine the swarmhost to actually be good. It looks like it just sort of slowly trickles out a few units every now and again and they will slowly do stuff given the right situation. I take it that the cur...

I kind of think of their jobs as sort of half-and-half real doctoring and medical research. Because I bet they publish many more papers than any other similarly sized medical team, even if it's not actually shown, simply by virtue of the interesting nature of all the cases that come their way. It's...

No, for 0<=x<=2 you have f'(x)>0 so the f(x) in increasing, not staying still or decreasing.

Edit: But as explained below, it is a minima.
