Re: Super Long Distance Cycling

Especially if you haven't done any touring before, think long and hard about doing it alone. Murphy's law is a bitch, and WILL take advantage of anything you don't prepare for. Bring a phone. Make a map, a DETAILED map. Give a copy of it to someone you trust, along with where you should be at what ...

Re: I love to ride my bicycle.......

If there were a benefit to riding heavy, racers would do it. I come from a swimming background, and resistance training is a HUGE part of our sport. No cyclists ever add weight/resistance to make their workouts harder? In my experience the benefit of resistance training comes from the athlete feeli...

Re: "Disaster Voyeurism" Discussion

Yeah, it's kind of strange. Does anyone do things like this, but hoping a disaster happens to themselves? I always find myself hoping that there will be an earthquake, or that the bus will crash on the way to school. I guess I just don't experience enough thrilling events in my life... I wish for a...

Re: Clipless pedals

I know there are people who do use clipless for mountain biking, the increase in power is evident especially when climbing hills... And don't worry about coordination. There's a learning curve for everything, but the system for mtb is easier to clip in/out of, more points of entry and exit from the ...

Re: Clipless pedals

1) I got tired of cage clip-in pedals, so a couple months ago I took the pedals off my dad's 1980's Eddie Merckx and am using his old Performance Bike brand shoes...Nothing fancy and brand new, but the system is the same as it was back then and DAMN if it isn't amazing. 2) If you buy a pedal wrench,...

Re: Swimming: its not just good for escaping Raptors anymore!

@ op Parkaboy: If your YMCA runs a Master's program, I'd highly recommend joining it. These are groups of adult swimmers which compromise broad ranges of ages, abilities, and goals, so you'll get coaches who understand who you are and what you want to do, and you'll find other's who share your same ...

Re: I love to ride my bicycle.......

Thanks guys, I ended up being convinced by my (future) training partners that, if I'm going to take triathlon/cycling training seriously at all, I should go with a road bike and try to put up with the little bit of on-campus transit that I'll be up to. This is the bike I ended up getting at my local...

I love to ride my bicycle.......

So, the topic is this: my parents have offered to buy me a bike as a high school graduation present. Because I've gotten a full ride scholarship with NROTC to UC Davis, they're willing to buy me literally any bike that I choose. So, all I have to do is find the perfect bike. Hopefully some of you ca...

Re: Personal Records

Congrats :) Thats a pretty substantial milestone to reach. I've been doing cross-training for my swim team, and we ran our first 5k this week in practice My coach clocked me at a 18:57... I couldn't believe how hard it was. Harder than anything I've ever swam in a practice thats for sure... Hopeful...

Re: Personal Records

I'm running a 5k race on Saturday, so hopefully that one will change. Well, I did 18:25... so I set a PR (which almost never happens in a summer road race for me), but I started out way too fast, and I really think I should be under 18 soon. I should also be focusing on weight training or something...

Re: Coaching, Who's Involved?

I coach with a summer swim program for kids. Most of the time we get parents looking for an hour of daycare style supervision, but some of them are really into it and we're there for those kids mostly. Try to get them more in love with the sport, and to get them to move up to year round. I'm not in ...

Re: 9 Year Old cousins homework: triangles of numbers

One way of simplifying it would be to subtract 10 from each of your numbers that you're putting into the triangle, so intead of using 11 thru 19, you're using 1 thru 9, then just subtract 40 from each of the target sums, leaving you with 17, 19, 21, 23. Another key to the problem is the corners. A n...

Re: DDR + Workout

Whatever you choose to work out with, one of the MOST important things of a new workout routine is to increase the length and intensity of the workout with each successive excercise. Now, dont expect to go from 5 pushups to 50 in a matter of days, but every time you get down and do any workout, try ...

Not sure if there are any other swimmers here, but 1:46.99 for 200y Freestyle. I love middle distance :] I FOUND ONE! I'm more of a distance swimmer, despite that I dread swimming 500 yards or more. My 200yd free time is a low 1:49 I think. I don't know exactly, it's been awhile since short course ...

I'm 16 years old, in my junior year (11th grade) of high school, and living in sunny San Diego, California. My passion in life is swimming. I've...
