Re: Dead Nintendo Game Boy - any suggestions?

I'd take a wild guess at light corrosion on the cartridge slot terminals. As above, the Nintendo logo is stored in the game cartridge, not the GB itself. Cotton-bud soaked in IPA (Isopropyl alcohol, NOT India Pale Ale! :D) should help to clean up the affected area without the need to disassemble. Gi...

Re: Dead Nintendo Game Boy - any suggestions?

It lives! Cracked solder on one of the battery terminals. And now i've fixed that, one of my 7-month old daughter's toys (little stuffed bird with an eccentricaly-weighted motor and speaker, so it vibratess and plays melodies) needs fixing, speaker wire has come adrift. Good thing I alread...

Dead Nintendo Game Boy - any suggestions?

Recently found my original (was given it for my 10th birthday way back in 1992!) Nintendo Game Boy stashed away in a box in the loft, thought i'd whip it out and have a play (Zelda cartridge was still in the slot!). Took out the old (leaking - fail!) batteries, cleaned out the crystallised acid and ...

Re: Hilarious Encounters With Celebs

Not really hilarious, per-sé, but it was rather amusing (and awesome!) at the time.... Many years ago now, was at Leeds Festival ( think it was 2002), queueing up to go in one of those bungee-ball things. Andrew WK (of "Party Hard" fame) joined the queue behind us, going on about hos crazy...

Re: Old Laptop(s)

I did that with my old 17" Vaio laptop. Screen hinges snapped, and new hinges (when I finally found some!) were more expensive than just buying a netbook, so I stripped off the screen assembly (keeping the wireless antenna out of it) and sold it on eBay, along with the battery, to offset the co...

Re: Is the glass half empty or half full?

Quick measurement (using MS Paint! Yeah! :D) tells me the glass is just short of half-full, so could be just over half-empty. But, as the glass doesn't contain bacon, may as well be called empty.

Friday Afternoon Blues?

Anyone else find it really hard to actually do anything at work on a Friday afternoon? I find that once i've had lunch, all I actually achieve is a lot of internetting, with the occasional making (and drinking) of a cup of tea. Right up until 5pm when my wife arrives to pick me up and GTFOOD. :D Jus...

Re: Random encounters years later

While I was at university, a few of us went out for a night at the local cinema. I wandered off to get a tub of popcorn, and the girl behind the counter was very chatty, asked me how I was doing, how my course was going, etc, then asked for my number (much to the chagrin of my mates!) to give ...

Re: Why does light move at the speed it does?

There's one property of the speed of light that's always confused me a little (which, admittedly, isn't all that hard!), and that's how it has the same value to an observer, no matter what relative (to the light being measured) speed they are travelling at. Example; Car A and car B are both travelli...
