Re: Has anyone tried the 28 hour day?
Just in case anyone ever looks back to this old thread…. I spent about four years on it, ten years back, working "spin cycle" at a 24-hour restaurant to give the other shift managers days off. The sleep cycle isn't hard to maintain, given blackout curtains for sleeping and a source of brig...

Re: 1190: "Time"
A cool comic, definitely. I kinda hope it's as simplistic as it seems, but it may not be. Note that the url of the image is quite different from the url of normal comics images. More precisely, when you open this image on its own , you are redirected to a non-standard url: http://origin.imgs.xkcd.c...

Re: 1127: "Congress"
I looked up La Follette's "paranoid freakout". It looks... not particularly paranoid, in hindsight, and with surprisingly relevant contemporary counterparts. (Though the bit about the railroads is out of date; ISPs might give a contemporary counterpart over the "net neutrality" i...

Re: Windows=Catholic; Linux=Protestant; MacOS= Eastern Orthodox
Something that my friends and I cooked up that we thought was amusing. Well, going by Chronology, Unix flavors are older; therefore, probably some variety of Christian-- and there are a LOT of them. The major splits in Christianity were the Orthodox/Catholic split ~500 AD (with some minor ones stil...

Re: Ethics question
Is it wrong to use my programming knowledge to get the answers, assuming this can be done with as little as 1 line of javascript, and if the professor had been informed of said vulnerability but has done nothing about it? Easy. Ask your professor if he thinks it would be wrong, or if he has no obje...

While I kind of agree with the zombie's point that testing things experimentally is the core of all science I'm sorry to disagree. First and most obvious, the observed data is the true core.
