Re: SOPA talk, yo.

Apparently the media moguls are infuriated that Obama is not doing or saying what they paid him to do. The staggering sense of entitlement in these quotes is just mind boggling. http://www.deadline.com/2012/01/exclusive-hollywood-moguls-stopping-obama-donations-because-of-administrations-piracy-sta...

Guess the internet getting angry in an election year is pretty effective...

And Anonymous just went nuts on DoJ, MPAA, RIAA, and a bunch of others: http://gizmodo.com/5877679/anonymous-kills-department-of-justice-site-in-megaupload-revenge-strike

Re: SOPA talk, yo.

Sorry, but back to the Mega thing...

The DoJ did this takedown without SOPA or PIPA.... To me, this seems to indicate they don't think they even need those bills in order to enforce piracy. Why again is Congress trying to get these through?

Re: SOPA talk, yo.

MPAA accusing others of abusing power. That's just delicious. Re: SOPA talk, yo.

Does anyone know when congress is expected to vote on SOPA? The Senate is expected to vote on PIPA on the 24th, but the House is up in the air on SOPA. Rep. Smith says they're about halfway through the committee hearings, and it could be on the floor in a matter of weeks: http://news.yahoo.com/auth...

Re: SOPA talk, yo.

Since I'm not in the US and thus don't get much from its news, I found this Mashable article about how US news is ignoring SOPA interesting . Media watchdog Media Matters found that most major TV news networks haven’t been giving SOPA prime-time coverage in any substantial terms. In a recently rele...

Re: Reigious institutions exempt from discrimination laws

In a Lutheran church, "called" workers include pastors, teachers, deacons, and other instructive administrative posts. If someone is a called worker, they are required to go through additional training that is specific to religious instruction, similar in scope to seminary school, though i...

PhD Uncertainty

Hi, I'm pretty new here, but I'm looking for some advice. I'm currently finishing up my bachelor's in physics with a specialty in astrophysics, but I'm also enrolled in my school's dual bachelor's/master's enrollment program. This basically means that my bachelor's takes four years, but during that ...

Re: SOPA talk, yo.

Are there any sites OTHER than Reddit that are definitely going to get involved in the blackout, that anyone knows about, or just rumblings? As far as I can tell, Reddit's the only major one that has gone official. Wikipedia's thinking about it publicly, but the debate is still ongoing, and I can o...

Mostly Linkin Park for me, though I'll slip into some rap if the mood strikes me (mostly Eminem, though I've got some Jay-Z and B.O.B. now). Typically the lyrics push me just as much as the beat.

Re: SOPA talk, yo.

I know this is somewhat separate from the current flow of the thread, but it's official. Reddit's doing a blackout to protest SOPA: http://blog.reddit.com/2012/01/stopped-they-must-be-on-this-all.html Not sure how likely it is that other sites will follow suit, but I hope they do. This is just about...

Re: SOPA talk, yo.

Latest news has it that Smith has agreed to a hearing with internet security experts, and the committee has delayed passage until after New Year's. The petition groups are now more concerned with PIPA. Reid's saying he's going to call for a vote first thing after the Senate comes back after New Year...
