Re: Parlons Français ! [French practice]

Re: Fourth person verbs?

I believe the usage of one as a subject is sort of the equivalent of the pronoun "on" in French, and perhaps a few other stuff(as one has seen with the servant example). Let me explain what "on" does. Despite being used as a much shorter version of "we" recently, it ori...

Re: 1018: Good Cop, Dadaist Cop

Do you find that there is a spike in the number of times a word in one of your comics is googled when your comics come out? I had to google Dadaist... I wonder if the spike in googles of that could measure in some way the popularity of XKCD... ... and the lack of knowledge of Dadaism the general pu...

Re: Parlons Français ! [French practice]

[French practice]

Well, I think the inversion is a bit more formal(langage soutenu est la terme correcte, je pense), while adding est-ce que is more common. Though the difference is very, very little. I think Comment tu t'appelles is also more of a "langage familiale", where you can use just intonation to a...

Re: Other Languages You've Studied

I hadn't realized I've studied 5 languages so far until I counted them for this poll. With the list being Turkish as my native language, German, French, Italian and Latin. Though I can only speak Turkish and English properly, and though I take my science classes in French, I'd hardly call myself a s...

Re: Moderatores Populusque XKCDi [Latin]

Salutem dico! ...And I don't think I could create meaningful sentences other than that. Unfortunately in my school Latin is taught as a stack of grammatical rules, and our teacher constantly reminds us how Latin is a dead language, while I want to actually improve my Latin to a decent level and actu...

Re: Parliamo Italiano! (Italian Practice)

Ciao!

Re: One sentence in the languages you know

The Turkish would be "Almanya'ya ne zaman geliyorsun?", and the French would be "Quand est-ce que tu vas venir en allemand?"(though I'm uncertain)

Re: Parlons Français ! [French practice]
