Re: Need help from a musical theater buff

I thought about Grease early on, because I thought Frenchy or (especially) Marty would be really fun to play. My friend tells me the original play is a lot different from the movie though, so I'm not sure what their parts are like (he couldn't even remember if Marty is in the play). I will have to g...

Need help from a musical theater buff

If anyone is pretty familiar with a variety of musicals, maybe you can help me. I'm working on a plot point for a new book. I need to come up with a musical that a high school would put on. It needs to have a part for a girl that's small, but fun. Something where if you got this part, you might be a...

My favorite snack lately has been cold cooked spinach with sliced beets on top, and a smidge of salt. I think it's awesome, but I was thinking about how funny it would be to offer that to a little kid as a yummy afternoon snack.

Re: Convince me to read

I'm trying to rack my brains for any good music-related fiction that might get you interested. I read a cyberpunk short a little while ago that had this whole crazy-cool descriptions of instruments from the future. It was called Rock On by Pat Cadigan. There's an Iain Banks book based around a rock...

Re: Working at a bookstore?

I've never worked at a bookstore so I can't offer first-hand experience. But based on some of my other experiences with retail, I think it would not be as great in practice as it seems in theory. I'm very into music, but working at a record store was just not all that exciting and cool like I though...

Pizza: The only time you are allowed to fit every food group into a single 6x8 item. I taught school for a while and one of my students wrote a journal entry on why pizza is so great. One reason was because it includes all the food groups: "The meat group, the dairy group, the vegetable group,...

Re: Modern problem: To read or not to read

I don't think there's anything bad about reading "trashy" books. Even if you're reading Harlequin romances or bad Star Wars knockoffs, reading engages your brain in a way that TV can't. TV feeds the information to you & you can be half-asleep and still get what's going on. Not so with ...

When I was in junior high, we weren't allowed to carry bags, and we could only go to our lockers at lunch. We had to carry a half-day's worth of books in our arms. In high school, we also had a no-bags rule, but it ended up being kind of a treat since at least we could go to our lockers after every ...

There's a neat little jazz album called Gling-Gló by Björk & Trio Gudmundar Ingólfssonar. Most of the songs are sung in Icelandic (although a couple are in English). It's pretty fun!

For preserving avocado, sprinkle a little lemon juice on the green part & put it in a tightly-sealed container - they get brown pretty fast when they're exposed to air. There'll probably be a little brown on top anyway when you come back to it, but you can scrape it off. (Actually you could prob...

Does it MATTER in this case? Unless there's a really good reason to differentiate GTA4 from GTA:SA, I'd just as soon say GTA and be done with it. I doubt it's going to hurt your story. It's going to be dated once the next version comes out, anyway, so I wouldn't worry too much about it. I actually ...

Question about video game versions

When a video game has multiple versions (i.e. Grand Theft Auto 1-4), do you always refer to the game with the version number (i.e. "Let's play Grand Theft Auto 4")? Or would you usually only say it that way for comparison's sake (i.e. "GTA4 is better than GTA3 because...")? I'm w...

Easy Star All-Stars - Paranoid Android (Radiohead) is lovely.

Gipsy Kings - Hotel California (Eagles) IMO makes the original pretty much unnecessary.

Also, I'm not really sure how well avocado bakes--it might be yummiest raw. Avocado bakes just fine - gets a bit richer and thicker. I think maybe I'd put it under the cheese so it doesn't dry out. I wouldn't want the bacon (actually, maybe not the pineapple either), but avocado pizza sounds great....

Hey, you wanted songs that say "I should end it now." "Oh mother, I can feel the soil falling over my head" seemed to fit the bill pretty well.

So does being famously, iconically depressed take a band out of the running for most depressing song?
