Re: Help needed on XKCD Annotation Service

Cool. Code normally gets updated using SVN or some other version control system. Sourceforge seems to have a basic "getting started" guide here if that helps. I've never started a project there either but I don't mind giving it a try if you can't figure it out. I've submitted a request un...

Re: Help needed on XKCD Annotation Service

Just one? Why not open source it? That way anyone can contribute to the project without having to commit to anything. I should have some free time in a few days but I don't know how helpful I would be - don't have much experience in web development atm. Hmm, sure. I have no problems outsourcing thi...

Help needed on XKCD Annotation Service

Hi everyone, About a year back I'd built this site (furiously over a weekend) to annotate xkcd comics. You can find it here http://www.coldsteelrail.com/xkcd I never got around the finishing the code, even though it sort-of works. (for eg: http://www.coldsteelrail.com/xkcd/index.php?no=393 ) Now, I ...

Re: Getting the most recent comic

I have written some parsing code which will effectively parse xkcd.com via DOM. This is a much better way that doing regex scraping. However I still have to figure out how to schedule cron jobs to get the most recent comics. i.e how does the code find out that a new comic has been published. The fac...

Re: Help wanted with hosting an XKCD project

A couple of people have offered me help with hosting. I would go ahead and so it, if someone is willing to help out with site maintenance. Not much work is left to be done, but php coders would be interested in helping out with adding a few new features that they could think of. Also on the TODO lis...

Help wanted with hosting an XKCD project

I wrote this PHP code for an XKCD annotations website This is where the website is hosted now. The thing is I have a really yucky, cheap internet host, and they crashed my database and I did not have enough hosting experience to back up my precious tables. That totally deflated me, and the fact that...

Can someone tell me more about Jeph Jacques? I know it's to do with Questionable Content, but I want more info on the kind of influences the comic brings.

Also I'm not too sure of this whole XKCD+QC business.

http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Average_height_of_one_story_house so it's 5 m, she's 4' 11", he's 5'9", those are reasonable people heights so I think it's a good estimate. Anyway, I think from the slack of the rope this is designed for a collision right as they reach the bed in the middle, so ...

Where I live we don't HAVE hamster balls, so I've never seen one IRL. I had a few questions which would affect my verdict of the design. 1. What kind of plastic is used? 2. Does it need inflating all the time? 3. What kind of guarantee do I get on it maintaining its transparency levels. Way I see it...

Site stats?

b.i.o asked me to ask this here. Hence, asking again :

I was wondering if xkcd has ever published his site stats somewhere. I was particularly interested in visitor distribution by geographical location. Any help in this regard would be awesome,

Cheers,

My username is from the pink floyd song Wish You Were Here. Its my all time fav song :)
And it does not hurt that Douglas Adams' biography is called that too :) (apart from the other connections he had with the band)

Someone annotated this comic as "Black-Hold Class-Hat" at http://coldsteelrail.com/xkcd/index.php?no=412. I have not approved this so you cant see it there. What does it mean? Can someone write a more complete fact-only annotation?

I'm assuming the person had some really personal reason for choosing this particular comic. It's not one I would choose. You want the tattoo to be a motif or as distinctive as possible. I think the abuse pie-chart would fit perfectly ;)
