PC boot problems

I'll try to keep this brief.. Built a new PC a while ago. It would occasionally complain on boot up that the USB current draw was too high. I only had a wired keyboard and mouse actually plugged in so would just reboot it. I foolishly ignored this until a few days ago when the OS froze 10 minutes in...

Re: Do I need SSL/HTTPS?

Thanks, I thought that would be the case and if one of the £10ish/year options turns out to be sufficient I was definitely planning on playing it safe and getting one anyway. And nothing like a fun technical challenge in setting it all up :)

And definite yes on the password handling :-)

Do I need SSL/HTTPS?

I do some voluntary IT work for a motorsport club. I'm coding up an online entries system for them that allows club members to enter and pay for events online. We're using Paypal for payments, so obviously card details are secure (at least to the extent that anyone trusts Paypal). However on our own...

120V Pftt. Try the 240V we have over here! The lighting in the loft area in our roof isn't connected directly to the mains - we don't go up there regularly enough for it to be worth it. We have a cable with a plug on each that we run between sockets in the loft space and downstairs. Needless to say ...

Re: Virtual Machine vs. External Optical Drive on Netbook

There's a third option. Something like Daemon Tools*: http://www.daemon-tools.cc/eng/downloads It creates a virtual drive on the netbook - you can then mount an ISO file on it and it will appear as a real drive. * Daemon Tools has occasionally been bundled with Adware IIRC, nothing too shady but be ...

What really annoys me is when a publisher will buy the rights to a work they don't want distributed and they sit on it to keep it from getting out. Meanwhile the cap is probably too low for the very best universities - Oxford and Cambridge take most of their students from private schools where mummy and daddy are already paying about £20k/year - if you were running Oxford you might as well have that £20k/year coming to you, so why not just pul...
