### Re: Tutoring somebody on a subject they don't know anythin a

Making physics fun is one thing, but most of the time it isn't the key factor in good tutoring. Good tutoring comes from understanding the problems with the subject that the person you are tutoring is having. I would make a lesson plan / guidance plan that is set up on the basic principle: - Find ou...

Kilometrage is indeed a word that means that, at least in Bulgarian. But it's not used in the context of fuel efficiency because, in Europe, fuel efficiency is not measured in distance travelled per volume unit of fuel (miles/gallon), but rather fuel spent for a given standard distance travelled, u...

So many fun options!!! My worn down Binas-book (simple book with constants, formula's and just about anything you would need to know if you want to calculate just about anything, mandatory in Dutch schools) A phone loaded with app's (accelerometer, dB-meter, etc. etc.) The first camera I used to cre...

900 euros/month? 400/month = room + gas/water/electricty 200/month = food (that's what I am currently spending) So this leaves 300/month for beer/books/clothes? It's been 10 years since I graduated, but I actually converted what I had to pay in guilders to euro's on a 1:1 basis. So either you are bl...

I am currently working on a project similar to Khan Academy (only in Dutch) I think the concept of KA is great, but also lacks in some places. Since we only have 3 brands of textbooks for physics and science, I try to couple all of my video's to the textbooks. Also, I am open to other people creatin...

50 minutes is perfect to handle just one subject! Teacher Assistent seems to me to be just a function where you help students with their "homework-assignments", or maybe come up with slight variances on them to help them better understand. Better to do one thing good, then just to touch 10...

### Re: Electricity from beta decay?

I only now saw this post. Last year in the Dutch final nationwide schoolexams in physics, there was actually a question about one such system. A small nuclear battery was proposed, consisting of a Ni-63 source. The radiaton will charge an small copper plate, and that will attract to the original sou...

### Re: Worst thing you've seen in a lab

As a highschool physics teacher, the worst thing I probably have seen was also the most shocking for my students. During an optics demonstration (internal reflection), I had a glass aquarium set up on my demonstration table. However, I had set it on two lifts, so that I could light the water-surface...
