Re: Police misbehavior thread

Why do you keep speaking in terms of prosecution? I already agreed it was minor in legal terms (at that stage). I'm talking in terms of a mental health intervention. Many criminal matters are actually mental health issues, especially if there are drugs involved. Because the only way they're going t...

Iron Man (and Iron Man 2) presents a world without superweapons until Tony Stark creates them. Cap shows plenty of Nazi-era superweapons, but there's no sign of them still being in play - Ten Rings uses a mix of conventional weaponry and Stark tech; the US military uses conventional vehicles and we...

I wonder if it's a lack of resources thing or them just getting jaded. It's probably a bit of both. Little of both. Most police departments are staffed at levels that force them to prioritize resources when it comes to actual investigations... and the unfortunate reality when it comes to things lik...

Vibranium isn't a superweapon - it's the raw material out of which superweapons could be made if you had the tech base for it. It's like selling yellowcake rather than selling nuclear warheads - there's a much, much bigger market for suitcase nukes than there is for the raw material that, potential...

Never having had Turkish delight or even bothered looking up what it is, I've imagined it as something like baklava, which I also think is really overrated. Goin' sunday. At a minimum, I expect it to be a glorious spectacle, as most MCU films have been. If it's even middling decent, I'll watch it a coupla times, because hey, Moviepass, and not a whole lot else is releasing until Deadpool 2.

But illegal immigrants are rarely on the books, or if they are it's through forged documents. All jobs are required to do that I-9 thing to prove that the worker is legally employable, which requires government issued photo ID. True, and employers are generally pretty fastidious about that. But the...

The cops first duty is to protect. I'd put it before serve. Insight and support-network info is worth far less than casualties, even an officers. It is entirely plausible to have policies that adversely affect certain ethnicities while reducing death rates *cough*druglaws*cough*, but that's not the point. Responding to a call /= combat situation.

I think that's the problem, there.

Edit: Upon reflection, that's still too kind. Military folks accept surrender from folks with actual guns all the time, in combat situations, without losing their shit and emptying magazines everywhere.

Okay, so...a pipe like that doesn't really resemble a gun all that much. This is worse than the bb guns or toy guns...at least those have roughly the right shape, sort of.

This is a valve and a small bent pipe, not even really in a gun like shape, unless one is very imaginative.

Yeah, that was a big factor. The early states/fed had a ton of trouble financing things, and it's a large part of why the articles of confederation didn't stick around. Even privately owned cannon and warships existed, and were greatly welcomed in the Revolution.
