I had that with a gross dental thing. Nothing budged the taste until, in desperation, I tried a danish pastry. I think it was the fat plus fine-grained sugar that finally muscled out the grossness.

In this context, it implies a firing line (standing in front of a squad of gunfolk). I've seen other uses that are closer to "we've got nowhere to run", I think, e.g. "we're up against a wall here".

So apparently gingerbread flavour "Cake in a Mug" mixes are not designed to be baked in hockey-puck-sized foil pans in a toaster oven at 350F for nine minutes. I added an extra tablespoon of water because the batter wasn't getting thoroughly dampened, but that was also probably not how it ...
