Re: Terminal and/or Ruby's motiveless hate campaign against noob

Also, if you want to run the code directly (./yourfile.rb instead of ruby -w yourfile.rb) as the first line of your file, write #!/usr/bin/ruby -w (But use the path to your ruby executable). Ruby does have some weird things about it, but one of the best sources of information is the ruby sidebar for...

Re: Types of Programmers

Hey man definitely keep your options open. When I started doing my CS degree, I thought that embedded systems was all about hardware too. I now work for a company who makes UHF radios as a support engineer. My job doesn't involve me doing any sort of programming for the product, about 80% of my job ...

Re: New Zealand meet up

Yay I got the job! Where is Jade? I've been there 3 weeks now and haven't seen it? Is it in the Technology Park or something? My title is officially "Software Technician", which basically means I try to make the build scripts run smoothely and fix the linux boxes when the engineers break t...

Re: New Zealand meet up

Hey, I live in Chch too! I have an interview with Tait on Tuesday (so I'm not cool enough to call myself a software engineer...yet) Anyway, I was a fan of xkcd BEFORE they started printing it in Canta. I'm an original dammit.

Re: Sprechen Sie Deutsch bitte! [German practice]

Re: IPv6

I have to agree, 16 BYTES is practically nothing. Yes, the header for each packet jumps from 20B to 256B but, given that IPv4 is older than I am and the current relative available bandwidth compared with that in 1981; and 256B is absolutely nothing at all. There is a short form for us humans to writ...

Re: Resources for learning the Math and Science behind computing

Hey man, I graduated with a degree in comp. sci. at the end of last year and I'd be more than happy to give you a hand if you need it. The languages I know best are (in descending order) Java, C and C++. So definitely chuck a post on here or something if you want a hand with anything. I love talking...

Re: Sprechen Sie Deutsch bitte! [German practice]

Hallo Leute.
