Re: Werstwerld (Westworld)

A few stupid logistical questions that really bother me: The primary one is the guns- namely how the visitors are protected from the hosts. There is the "can't use weapons" level which seems to be new and mostly redundant, the "can't attempt to hurt a visitor" rule which...

Re: Spiderman: Homecoming

I loved the scene with the bank robbers: "Wait a minute, you guys are not the real avengers". It looks like they are gonna go with Tony Stark as a mentor for Spiderman. That's certainly an interesting approach, that might work very well, but could also backfire. We've seen so many origin s...

This is why Margaret Atwood (Oryx & Crake) is way scarier and more plausible than Orwell. An article saying economic inequality tends to increase makes you consider a dystopian novel describing a society where all wealth and power are held by a very small elite to be less plausible? I don't fol...

I think you just illustrated part of the problem. The Ancient One isn't just an Asian character - he's a Tibetan character. Any narrative is problematic if it is the only narrative you ever tell about a group of people. But some movie has to be the first (major one). The technique of whistling with two fingers in your mouth is in my experience most often used in concerts and other such events, as a sign of approval. A form of cheering basically. Kingsman is a parody movie though. It's an absurdist comedy. The disconnect between the cheery music and beautiful choreography on one hand and the horror of what is actually happening on the other is not a mistake. It is very much intentional, and is in fact what that scene so good.
