Re: 1965: "Background Apps"

The background app advice bugs me, because there are good reasons to close apps and "don't close them to save battery" easily gets interpreted as "don't close them". I habitually close mine for two reasons: - Even mainstream apps (hangouts, youtube, etc) can sometimes exhibit min...

Re: Let's talk about Net Neutrality in 2017

This heartens me. If enough states do this, it will make it difficult for ISPs to run the internet over, especially as many of them are geographically large. It doesn't even need to be very many states; cattle don't go on the net. Yet. (At least, cattle don't choose their ISP). A few of the most po...

I'd be mostly preaching to the choir to post my general pro-neutrality thoughts, but on a couple points brought up in this topic: - Remote surgery, VoIP 911 calls and the like - these have always been exempt from Net Neutrality rules as well as network management such as delaying email by a second o...

Re: My Future Invention card game

You could get some mileage out of having some sort of random adjective + noun combination pairs for the inventions, with each contributing toward their in-game goals. It would make the inventions a bit zanier but helps with replay value. Then you can also do things like having the noun be known to e...

I don't have a direct answer, but I'm curious what the plan is. Are we putting hydrogen and helium into cold storage and then making one star at a time, just enough to keep the species going? Or are we skipping stars altogether in favor of fusing it in reactors? Something else?

No, the joke is that if the thing behind the glass is a first aid kit, you can use regular glass instead of safety glass, because if you get hurt when you break the glass, hey, you've got a first aid kit. That's kind of what I was thinking at first, but then I googled emergency locker, and, as far ...
