Re: 1000 Spoons

Let's say that the spoons will be constrained on the sides. And there will be many more than 1000, but apparently the best bulk deals are for 1000 spoons (incidentally, if anyone can find a better deal than $13.59/1000 spoons, that would be awesome), so the 1000 is to get a benchmark for our calcula...

1000 Spoons

The question is simple: What is the (approximate) volume occupied by 1000 plastic spoons in a disorganized pile (i.e. not neatly stacked)?

I promise that this knowledge will be put to good use as part of an epic prank.

The lightbulb-part reminded me of this presentation by Randall: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z_zwyJ6IYR0 where the last question he gets from the audience is how many computational linguists it takes to change a lightbulb (but there he sort of seems to resent the whole how many [some sort of peop...

I've had an algorithms course, just didn't cover genetic algorithms. They seem... interesting (from the 10 seconds of Wiki reading I did). And I got the Skynet reference, really. I'm an avid follower of Summer Glau... errr, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles.

Randall, I thought we all agreed long ago: we were all moving on as a society. Frankly, I'm sick and tired of penis jokes, particularly coming from a comic that was [once] known for witty humor centering around nerdy, or otherwise abnormal, ideas. Penis jokes are the jokes of frat boys and teenager...

The joke this joke is punning on (as originally told by my rabbi): A guy goes into a bar and sits down at the bar and says to the bartender, “If I provide you with the evening’s entertainment for the bar, will you buy me my drinks?” The bartender says, “Sure, let’s see what you got.” So the guy reac...

I think you're fine. Assuming p1 and p2 are different from each other and from q, you've really just used two separate pads. However, since they aren't truly random, they don't provide "perfect" security--if their content is at all predictable, then you could have a problem. That problem a...
